1896년 영국에서 트린실베니아로 온 젊은 변호사 랜필드(Renfield: 피터 맥니콜 분)가 드라큐라(Dracula: 레슬리 닐슨 분) 백작의 성 근처 마을에 도착한다. 주민들은 드라큐라 백작과 사업상 만날 일이 있다는 변호사 랜필드를 보고 드라큐라 백작에게 가지 말라고 충고하지만 그는 그 말을 무시하고 드라큐라 백작을 만나러 간다. 드라큐라가 영국의 저택을 찾아 일을 도와주고 있는 랜필드는 그러나 계약서를 작성하다 종이에 베어 피를 흘리고, 드라큐라는 젊은 남자의 피를 보자 흥분한다. 결국, 랜필드에게 최면을 걸어 자신의 종으로 만든 드라큐라는 영국에 도착해 생활하게 되고, 우연히 만난 이웃집의 미나(Mina: 에이미 야스벡 분)에게 묘한 감정을 느낀다. 스스로의 초능력을 이용해 미나를 탐하던 드라큐라를 막기 위해 사람들은 대책을 세우게 되고, 결국 미확인 질병의 대가인 밴 헬싱 교수(Dr. Abraham Van Helsing: 멜 브룩스 분)를 초빙한다. 마늘과 십자가 등을 동원해 흡혈귀의 침입을 막던 밴 헬싱은 이웃집의 드라큐라가 흡혈귀일 것으로 의심하나 증거를 찾지 못한다. 드라큐라는 계속 미나의 피를 탐하고, 미나가 죽자 미나가 흡혈귀로 부활할 것을 걱정한 밴 헬싱은 미나의 가슴에 말뚝을 박아 죽여야 한다고 주장하지만 그의 아버지는 그럴 수 없다고 버틴다. 결국 미나는 흡혈귀로 부활해 사람의 피를 탐하고 밴 헬싱은 간신히 그녀의 심장에 말뚝을 박아 죽이는데 성공한다. 그러나 드라큐라는 미나의 동생을 노리고, 미나의 동생도 점점 흡혈귀로 변해간다. 밴 헬싱은 흡혈귀는 거울에 보이지 않는다는 것을 이용, 무도회를 열어 드라큐라 백작의 모습을 거울에 비춰 모습이 드러나지 않으면 죽이기로 한다. 무도회날 그들의 꾀임에 넘어간 드라큐라는 결국 정체를 드러내게 되고, 벤 헬싱은 그를 유인해 동이 트는 아침 그에게 빛을 보게 해 태워 죽이고, 그후 마을에는 평화가 돌아온다.

흡혈귀라 불리는 드라큘라 백작(크리스토퍼 리 분)의 정체를 밝히기 위해 조나단이란 청년이 사서로 취직하지만, 며칠 후에 죽은 채로 발견된다. 의사 반 헬싱(피터 키싱 분)은 친구인 조나단의 일기를 통해 백작의 정체를 알게 되고, 드라큘라 백작의 성으로 향하는데... 트랜실바니아에 실존했다고 하는 드라큐라 백작(Count Dracula)의 전설을 그린 컬러판 최초 작품. 브람 스토커의 유명한 소설을 영화화한 작품으로 벨라 루고시가 출연한 토드 브라우닝의 (1931)보다 원작의 의도에 더 가깝다는 평을 듣는 뛰어난 공포영화 중 한 편이다. 영국 개봉 당시 잔인하다는 이유로 많은 장면이 검열 당했지만 2000년대 중반 BFI(British Film Institute)가 원본의 형태로 복원했다. Young Chinese-American filmmaker Wei-ming travels from New York to his childhood home on Lamma Island to make a video documentary about the imminent opening of a Disneyland theme park in Hong Kong. While doing research for the project, he meets Larry, a dancer/choreographer.

It beautifully draws the parallel between the great music of the composers, the historic and social upheavals of their times, as well as the "smaller stories" of the successive generations of Ricordi.
