어느 날 전 세계 12개 지역에 외계 비행물체 셸이 동시다발로 출현한다. 450m에 달하는 거대 비행체가 가만히 서 있을 뿐 어떤 행동도 하지 않자 각국 정부는 각자의 방식으로 외계인과 접촉을 시작하지만, 완전히 다른 언어 체계 때문에 첫 단계부터 난항을 겪는다. 미국 정부의 요청을 받은 언어학자 루이스와 물리학자 이안은 말과 글이 통하지 않는 상황에서, 신체의 모든 기관과 감정을 이용해 미지의 생명체와 대화를 시도하고 서로의 문자를 배워나간다. 마침내 대화의 물꼬가 트이게 되지만 그때부터 루이스는 이해하기 어려운 환상을 연이어 보기 시작하는데...

'슈티(Ch'tis)'란? 프랑스 북부 지역과 그 곳에 사는 사람들, 그들이 사용하는 사투리 등을 통칭하는 단어이다. 특히 이 지역의 언어는 '슈티 프랑스어(Ch'tis-French)' 사전이 존재할 정도로 프랑스 표준어와 많은 차이가 있다.

1973년 11월, 오클라호마의 연구소에서 아기 침팬지가 태어났다. 그의 이름은 님 침스키. 허버트 박사의 프로젝트를 위해 강제로 어미와 이별한 후 스테파니의 집에 맡겨져 ‘인간의 아이’처럼 길러진다. 스테파니의 딸 제니와 함께 성장한 님은 언어 교육을 위해 허버트 박사 연구팀의 로라에게 맡겨지고 수화를 통해 기본적인 단어들을 배우며 놀라운 능력을 선보이지만, 어느 새부턴가 종종 거센 힘을 휘두르며 침팬지의 야성을 드러낸다. 실험을 지속할 수 없다고 판단한 허버트 박사는 프로젝트를 중단, 님을 오클라호마 침팬지 연구소로 돌려 보내는데…

The tragic true story of one of the worst cases of child abuse ever documented (in which a girl was locked in a room without social contact for nearly thirteen years) and what happened when she was finally rescued.

Set in a sleepy Austrian mountain village, ex-detective Simon Brenner has grown weary of his job repossessing cars and embarks on an extended getaway to the countryside. But before long he becomes embroiled in the convoluted world of the locals of a supposedly quiet town.

Brenner returns to Graz, the city where he grew up. When confronted with his old friends, his former girlfriend and the major sin he committed when he was young, murders and a fateful gunshot to the head result. After Brenner comes out of a coma, he begins to search for the person who tried to kill him - however, everybody claims that he himself is responsible. In the beginning Brenner was at the end of his rope, but he could face a new beginning in the end.

Trouble is brewing in idyllic small-town Bavaria. Not so much because the village’s well-known webcam girl was murdered, a case Franz Eberhofer investigates in his usual laid-back manner, but more because now, of all times, his pushy yet always helpful partner Rudi is stuck in a wheelchair after an accident for which, of course, he blames Franz. The tension rises when Rudi settles in on the farm, expecting round-the-clock care from Franz.

프랑스 감독 미셸 공드리가 미국의 언어학자이자 정치평론가 노암 촘스키를 만나 직접 인터뷰를 진행하고 이를 기록한 다큐멘터리-애니메이션이다. 19세기를 대표하는 언어학자를 소쉬르로 본다면 20세기의 언어학은 변형생성문법의 창시자인 촘스키를 제외하고 논의될 수 없다. 공드리는 국내에서는 물론 전 세계적으로 유명한 정치 행동주의자로서의 면모보다 학자로서 그의 업적에 초점을 둔다. 대신 비교적 쉽게 대중들이 그의 언어학이론에 다가가게끔 애니메이션 기법을 도입하거나 삐뚤거리는 글자들로 질문들을 장식했다. 때때로 촘스키의 부모나 고인이 된 아내, 자식들에 대한 질문들을 통해 대학자의 인간적인 모습도 곁들인다. 영화 제목은 언어학에 한 획을 그은 저서『 통사구조론』(1957)에서‘ The man who is tall is happy.’를 의문문으로 전환시키는 것은 창조적인 인간정신의 본능적인 결과물이라는 그의 설명에서 비롯되었다. 딱딱하지 않게 촘스키의 이론을 만나볼 수 있는 작품으로 통통 튀는 공드리와 진지하게 수학과 언어를 논하는 대학자간의 오묘한 균형도 볼만하다. Sawsan’s big dream comes true when one of her songs is chosen for the Danish version of the Eurovision Song Contest for kids. Sawsan’s father of course says no, but Karl has a plan.
