사막의 고속도로를 맹스피드로 달리고 있던 차가 벼랑으로 떨어진다. 현장에 있었던 4대의 차로부터 5명의 남자가 도와주러 내려가지만 숨이 끊어지기 직전의 남자가 '주립공원에 35만달러의 현금이 묻혀있다'는 말을 남기고 직전의 이 말을 들은 이들은 눈색깔이 변하고 숨겨진 돈을 찾기위해 제각기 떠나게 되는데 식품운송사업에 실패한 휫치와 그의 아내. 치과의사와 그의 처, 극작가, 가재도구를 운반하던 사람들이 이들이다. 또한 영국육군중위가 가세하여 이 돈을 먼저 차지하기 위해 갖가지 방법을 동원해 나간다.
남 아프리카로 여행을 온 뉴먼 가족. 아버지인 톰을 제외한 나머지 가족들은 초원을 구경하면서 시간을 보낸다. 하지만 차량이 사자들의 사냥 영역으로 들어가고 당황한 가족들 앞에서 가이드가 처참하게 사냥을 당한다. 사자들은 고립된 가족들을 먹이로 보고 파상적인 공격을 감행한다. 톰은 가족들이 어딘가에서 길을 잃은 것을 알고 지역 사냥꾼을 고용하여 가족들을 구출하기 위하여 길을 나선다. 한편 가족들은 모든 것을 포기한 최후의 순간에, 갑자기 나타난 원주민 사자 사냥꾼의 도움으로 구사일생으로 위기를 모면한다. 하지만 동료를 잃은 사자들의 공격은 더욱 잔인해 지고.......
세계적으로 유명한 초고속 레이싱 비행기인 더스티는 엔진 고장으로 더 이상 레이싱을 할 수 없게 된다. 하는 수 없이 고향으로 돌아오지만 실수로 화재 사고를 일으키게 되고, 낙후된 장비 때문에 작은 불은 큰 불로 번지고 만다. 결국 고향을 위해 소방 구조대의 길로 뛰어 들게 된 더스티는 베테랑 소방 구조대인 블레이드 레인저의 팀에 합류해 차차 구조대의 일을 익히게 된다. 용감한 동료들과 함께 거대한 불길 속으로 뛰어 들면서 조금씩 성장하는 더스티. 과연 더스티는 진정한 영웅이 될 수 있을까?

캘리포니아주에 위치한 요세미티 산맥은 한 해 300만 명이 넘는 관광객이 찾는 미국의 대표적인 국립공원이다. 하지만 세계에서 가장 큰 암석인 앨카피탄과 3,000미터가 넘는 암벽이 즐비한 이곳은 동시에 미국 등반가들의 성지이기도 하다. 1950년대부터 지금까지 무허가로 암벽을 오르는 등반가들은 한가로이 자연 경관을 바라보며 느긋한 휴가를 즐기려는 중산층 시민들과 경찰당국에겐 늘 눈엣가시였으며 아직도 그렇다. 50년대에 처음 이곳에 둥지를 튼 최초의 등반가들은 소비주의에 매몰된 사회에 반항하는 비트족이자 등반을 통해 대항문화공동체를 이뤄나간 반체제주의자들이었으며, 이런 전통은 아직도 후배 등반가들을 통해 지속되고 있다. 아카이브 영상을 발랄하고 자유자재로 편집한 장면들은 시종일관 웃음을 자아낸다. 최근 요세미티에서 베이스점프 중 사망해 많은 등반가들의 안타까움을 자아낸 전설적 등반가 딘 포터의 모습을 볼 수 있는 마지막 영화이기도 하다. Two surfers end up as Yellowstone park rangers and have to stop a former ranger who is out for revenge.
북미 국립공원 숲속에서 야영하던 여성 둘이 영화에서 가장 먼저 곰에게 습격당하는데 일행 하나는 눈앞에서 곰의 공격으로 처참하게 찢겨지고 다른 여성은 달아나 산속 빈 창고로 숨어 문을 잠그지만, 이게 오히려 자충수가 되어 쫓아온 곰이 문을 가볍게 부수고 그 여성도 공격으로 죽게된다. 다음 날, 곰이 먹다 남긴 여자들의 시체가 발견되어 산림 감시원이 식인 곰이 나타난 걸로 파악하고 시장에게 공원을 폐쇄하고 곰부터 잡자고 건의하지만 마침, 시기가 산악관광객이 많이 오는 시기라 그건 안된 다고 거부당한다. 하지만 그러다 여성 산림감시원도 죽고 다른 남성 감시원은 산림 망루에서 감시하다가 곰이 갑자기 나타나 망루를 부숴댈 때 다급하게 무전으로 도움 요청하며 총을 쏘았지만 무너지는 망루와 같이 추락해 즉사한다. 무전을 듣고 주인공과 사냥꾼들이 서둘러 왔을 때는, 곰은 흔적도 없었고 죽은 감시원 시체나 확인했을 뿐. 그럼에도 여전히 관광객이 넘치게 오던 이 산악공원에 사람이 많은 야영장까지 밤중에 나타나서는 텐트에 있는 또 한 여성을 습격하게 된다. 비명을 듣고 몰려든 사람들 앞에서 여자는 처참하게 공격을 당하고 겁에 질린 사람들은 충격 속에 달아난다. 그제 서야 방송 취재진이 몰려들면서 안전 문제를 성토하고 시장이 자칫하면 시장자리에서 물러나 위기에 처하자 비로소 시장은 사냥꾼들을 고용하고 산림감시원 대장인 주인공이 곰 사냥꾼 및 곰 관련 동물학자와 같이 곰을 잡고자 나서는데......
