형사 샤클리(Ben Shockley: 클린트 이스트우드 분)는 살인 사건의 증인인 거스 몰리(Gus Mally: 산드라 로 분)를 법정까지 호송하는 임무를 맡는다. 샤클리가 그녀를 호송차에 태우고 가던 중 누군가의 공격을 받아 외딴집에 피신 후 상관에게 증원을 요청하는 전화를 한다. 그러나 증원은 되지않고 느닷없이 그집은 경찰관들에 포위되어 총탄세례를 받는다. 영문도 모르는 채 이들은 총격을 피하고, 피신하여 상관에게 보고를 하고, 길을 떠나는 도중에 차가 공격을 받고 공중에서의 헬기가 그들을 추적한다. 살인 사건의 목격자인 그녀의 증언은 시장과 경찰고위 간부가 연루되어있는 사건이었던 것이다. 드디어 샤클리와 선은 이 사실을 알고 법정으로 가기위해 버스에 방탄막을 설치하고 돌진하는데...

14세 말괄량이 소녀 내티(Natty Gann: 마레디스 샐렌거 분)는 홀아버지와 함께 시카고에서 어렵게 살고 있다. 1930년의 대공황 시대, 내티의 아빠는 일자리를 찾으려 노력하고 내티도 일자리를 구하기 위해 시카고 거리를 쏘다닌다. 그러던 어느날, 그녀의 아빠는 서부 시매틀 근교의 별목작업부 제의를 받고 외출한 내티를 만나지 못한 채 급히 시애틀로 떠난다. 아빠를 찾아 시카고에서 시애틀까지의 험난한 모험을 시작한다.

어네스트 고든의 자전적인 이야기를 담은 동명의 책을 영화화한 작품으로 세계2차대전 당시 일본군에게 잡혀 포로수용소에 갇혔지만, 희망을 버리지 않은 이들의 이야기를 그린 영화.

스위스 취리히의 유서 깊은 기차역이 철거되고 그 자리에 새로운 교도소와 치안센터가 건축되는 과정을 담는다. 감독은 본인의 집 창문에서 35mm 카메라를 이용해 이 과정을 7년 동안 촬영하면서, 자유로운 이동을 보장하던 철로의 확장성이 통제와 감금이라는 집약적 공간으로 변화하는 과정을 보여준다. 다이나믹한 이미지 위로 난민의 지위를 부여받지 못해 교도소에 입소 되기를 기다리는 이들의 증언이 입혀지고, 감독은 우리가 역사의 소멸, 그리고 완전한 안보라는 이름으로 역사가 대체되는 과정을 어떻게 다루는지를 보여준다. (서울환경영화제)

A truck driver races a train to the West Coast in an attempt to determine which method of transportation is faster.

Bunky Blum is picked on in school. His only peace comes during lunch hour, when he and his mentally ill Mother eat McDonalds and visit a talking train named Train. The 83 year-old train is now a caged monument in the center of a children's park. However, Bunky believes that the train will break out of its confines and save him from the bullies of the schoolyard. When Bunky realizes that the train is not magical, all hope is lost and Bunky has a moral melt down. In a fit of rage, Bunky punches a girl in a wheelchair. The unsympathetic move lands Bunky on the losing end of a full out brawl. Bunky's Mother witnesses the schoolyard violence and she erupts into her own fit of rage, which ultimately sends her back to the psych ward. In the end, Bunky is left without hope, without family and without security. He returns to the old train to make a final plea for vengeance. But Bunky's giant steal savior has not come for vengeance. Rather, it offers Bunky what he needs, a shush of peace.

Highlights include a candy apple red Soo Line SD40-2 and a Canadian Pacific SD40-2F "Red Barn" wearing the dual flag paint scheme, not to mention plenty of Soo Line cabooses.

Running in excursions over former Burlington Northern trackage, the Daylight treated enthusiastic throngs of spectators to the sights and sounds of thundering steam power.
