Brooklyn Castle is a documentary about I.S. 318 – an inner-city school where more than 65 percent of students are from homes with incomes below the federal poverty level – that also happens to have the best, most winning junior high school chess team in the country. Chess has transformed the school from one cited in 2003 as a “school in need of improvement” to one of New York City’s best. But a series of recession-driven public school budget cuts now threaten to undermine those hard-won successes.

Unfolding alongside these scenes are an array of newer traditions: lockdown drills, teacher firearm trainings, metal detector inspections, and school safety trade shows. This documentary weaves together these moments in a cinematic meditation on fear, violence, and the meaning of safety, bringing viewers into intimate proximity with the people self-tasked with protecting the nation's children while generating revenue along the way, as well as with those most deeply impacted by these heightened security measures: students and teachers.

Alec Smart, who is engaged teaching in a prison, applies for the job of headmaster at a nearby public school to replace the previous headmaster who has been convicted of writing forged cheques and has just been sent to prison. Smart appeals to the Governor to write him a good reference which he pretends to. Afterwards he writes his real recommendation which is very negative about Smart's talents. The trustee who works as the Governor's secretary, Faker Brown, "accidentally" gets the two letters mixed up and delivers the one praising Smart. On the basis of the letter, Lady Dorking, the who runs the Board of Governors appoints Smart to the job. This angers her deputy, Colonel Crableigh, who had favoured promoting his nephew, the Deputy head.

선원 에드몽 단테스(짐 카비질)는 순수하고 정직한 청년으로 고향 마르세유에서 아름다운 메르세데스(다그마라 도민칙)와 결혼을 예정하고 있다. 에드몽의 배가 나폴레옹이 유배된 엘바 섬에 잠시 거치게 되고, 에드몽은 나폴레옹으로부터 비밀리에 전달할 편지를 부탁 받는다. 마르세유로 돌아온 에드몽, 그러나 가장 친한 친구인 페르난도(가이 피어스)가 메르세데스에게 흑심을 품고는 급기야 에드몽을 모함한다. 결국 에드몽은 반역죄로 악명 높은 샤또디프 형무소에 투옥된다. 억울한 누명 때문에 장미빛 인생이 한순간에 악몽으로 바뀐 에드몽은 옳고 그름에 대하여 그동안 자신이 갖고 있던 모든 판단과 믿음을 포기해 버린다. 그대신 자신을 모함한 원수들을 향한 복수심을 불태운다. 딴 독방에 갇혀 있던 죄수(리차드 해리스)의 도움으로 에드몽은 형무소를 탈출하여 신분을 바꾸고 복수 계획을 세우는데...

완구 회사의 마케팅 팀장 스캇(Scott Calvin: 팀 알렌 분)은 최근 아내와 이혼하며 혼자 살며 전처 로라(Laura: 웬디 크루손 분)와의 사이에 찰리(Charlie: 에릭 로이드 분)란 아들이 있다. 이혼 후 스캇과 찰리의 어색하고 부자연한 관계는 '희한한' 운명의 장난에 의해 스캇이 산타 클로스가 되어버린 이후부터 따뜻하고 다정한 관계로 바뀌게 된다. 어느 크리스마스 이브, 산타 클로스가 스캇의 지붕에서 떨어져 죽었을 때, 스캇은 그의 옷 속에 간직된 카드의 조항대로 산타의 옷을 입게 된다. 그 순간 스캇과 찰리는 순록이 있는 마차에 이끌려 북극에 도착하게 된다. 그곳에서 이들 부자는 요정들의 대장인 버나드(Bernard: 데이비드 크룸훌츠 분)를 만난다. 버나드는 산타의 옷을 입는 순간, 그 옷을 입는 사람은 반드시 산타의 의무와 책임을 떠맡아야 한다는 조항을 스캇에게 들려준다. 스캇은 갑작스러운 자신의 신분 변화에 황당해 한다. 반면 찰리는 어떠한가? 당연히 날뛰듯 좋아한다. 졸지에 산타가 된 스캇은 그후 12개월 동안 몸무게가 늘더니 급기야 엄청나게 비대해져 버린다. 게다가 아침에 말끔히 면도를 해도 오후가 되면 덥수룩하게 턱수염과 구렛나루가 자라난다. 그는 나름대로 고군분투하며 자신의 모습을 변호하려고 애쓰지만 결국 산타의 모습을 인정하고 만다. 스캇은 찰리, 그리고 여덟 마리의 순록과 함께 산타의 존재를 증명하기 위한, 신나는 모험을 펼친다. 그리하여 마침내 스캇은 진짜 산타가 되어버린다.
