시카고 경찰서의 에디 질레트(리처드 기어)는 형사인 친구 콜린즈(게리 바사라바)와 함께 마약 밀매 조직을 추적하고 있었다. 한겨울이었다. 거리의 레스토랑에서 조직의 한 패를 발견한 에디는 그 중 미셀(킴 베이싱어)을 체포하여 조직의 행선지를 알아내려 하지만 미셀은 한마디도 하지 않는다. 미셀은 조직의 보스인 로사도의 정부였던 것이다. 로사도는 에디와 콜린즈의 뒤를 쫓는데 로사드의 총을 맞아 에디의 차는 부서지고 에디만 겨우 탈출한다. 콜린즈는 미셸을 데리고 있다가 살해 당한다. 친구의 죽음을 애통해 하던 에디는 복수를 결심하고 조직의 본거지인 뉴올리안즈로 와서 미셸을 잡아 수갑을 채우는데, 조직원들은 무차별 총격을 가한다. 이들은 총격을 피해 도피한다. 차를 버리고 선착장으로 도망친 둘은 물 속으로 몸을 던져 피한 다음 강 하류로 떠내려간다. 잠시 휴식 동안 미셀의 성장기를 들은 에디는 연민을 느끼고, 이들은 결국 사랑에 빠진다. 그리고 로사도 일당을 모조리 물리친 후 사랑에 몸을 던진다.

비르지니 데팡트(Virginie Despentes) 감독 본인의 동명의 베스트셀러 소설을 직접 영화화한 작품으로 두 여성의 섹스, 마약 그리고 살인행각에 관한 이야기를 하고있다. 두 주연 배우는 실제 포르노 배우 출신이며, 프랑스에서 X 등급을 받는 등 논란이 되었다. 르몽드지는 "섹스와 죽음의 절망을 적절히 배합했다"라는 평과 함께 실제 포르로 배우 출신인 두 주인공 라파엘라 안드르송과 카렌 바하의 "믿을 수 없을 정도로 자연스러움"을 호평했다. 감독 카트린 브레이아와의 대담에서 감독 비리지니 데스팽은 "그림으로 표현하면 인정되는 장면을 영화로는 표현할 수 없다는 것은 억지이다"라고 분노를 감추지 않았다.
