Emergency Ward (1959)

A small forest town is trying to promote itself as a place for tourists to come enjoy the therapeutic hot springs and unspoiled nature. Dr. Stockmann, however, makes the inconvenient discovery that the nature around the village is not so unspoiled. In fact, the runoff from the local tanning mill has contaminated the water to a dangerous degree. The town fathers argue that cleaning up the mess would be far too expensive and the publicity would destroy the town's reputation, so therefore news of the pollution should be suppressed. Dr. Stockmann decides to fight to get the word out to the people, but receives as very mixed reaction.

Reporters reveal intolerable conditions in Munich's St. Martin Hospital. The nurses are underpaid and overworked, and have sex with doctors and patients.

The film looks behind the fear, hype and politics that polarize people into emotionally charged pro-vaccine or anti-vaccine camps with no room for middle ground. Verite stories of individuals and their families, whose lives have been forever changed by vaccine choices, interwoven with interviews from leading experts in the field, will re-frame the vaccine debate and offer, for the first time, the opportunity to have a rational, scientific and factual discussion on how to create a more effective vaccine program in America today.

The Swedish doctor of literature Vilhelm Canitz arrive to Lugano in Italy for a few weeks stay at a medical clinic. Canitz considers himself to be quite healthy and the stay as an extended vacation. He meets a number of patients at the clinic suffering of terminal illnesses, including Vellamo Toivonen (Lindfors). The latter half of the film encompasses a full day in the hospital-village, following the octogenarian Samaritan in his daily rounds.

The relationship between a doctor and a depressed young patient in a public hospital.

The story takes place in Carhaix, in the heart of Brittany. A small hospital, with a calm maternity clinic, where few births take place. Mathilde, a mid-wife, Firmine, a pediatric nurse, and Louise, the owner of the Carhaix bowling alley, are all friends and lead a happy existence. Catherine, director of the establishment's Human Resources, is sent to restructure the hospital and, most importantly, to eventually shut down the maternity clinic, which is losing money. Four women whose age, personalities, and origins are different, but who will form a quartet overflowing with humanity and humor as they join forces to save the clinic. Life, love, friendship, Brittany and... bowling.

택시 기사인 테드 스트라이커(Ted Striker: 로버트 헤이스 분)와 스튜어디스인 일레인(Elaine Dickinson: 줄리 헤거티 분)은 오랜 연인 사이. 그러나 과거 공군 조종사로 참전했던 테드가 작전 수행 도중 전사한 동료들에 대한 기억으로 인해 일종의 비행 공포증을 앓게 되고, 전우의 죽음이 자신의 판단 착오 탓이라며 하루하루 자책하며 살아가자 견디다 못한 일레인은 결별을 선언한다. 이에 테드는 떠나는 일레인을 설득하고자 엉겁결에 그녀가 승선한 시카고행 209편기에 오르게 되고, 비행 공포증을 이겨내고자 과거 일레인과의 추억담을 옆좌석 사람들에게 들려준다. 그러던 중 기내 식사로 생선을 먹은 승객들이 식중독 증세를 보이고, 기장(Captain Oveur: 피터 그레이브스 분)을 비롯한 조종사들마저 정신을 잃게 된다. 위기 상황에 처한 여승무원들은 조종 경험이 있는 승객을 수소문하고 마침내 테드가 조종대를 잡게 된다. 1시간 내에 병원으로 후송되지 못하면 생명이 위태로운 승객들. 테드는 시카고 공항에 불시착하고자 하지만 되살아나는 과거의 악몽으로 상황은 어려워져만 간다. 하지만 위기 상황에서 지휘를 맡은 노의사 러막크(Doctor Rumack: 레슬리 닐슨 분)의 말에 감명을 받아 마침내 용기를 얻어 여객기를 무사히 착륙시킨다. 그리고 일레인의 사랑도 되찾는다.

정부에서 주는 연금으로 최소한의 생활을 영위하며 살아가던 늙은 퇴직자 움베르토는 방세를 올려달라는 하숙집 여주인의 요구로 곤란을 겪는다. 친구라곤 하숙집 하녀 마리아와 유일한 동반자인 작은 개 플릭 뿐이었던 그는 정신적, 물질적 궁핍 속에서 점점 고독 속으로 빠져든다. 그가 어느 날 자선병원에서 돌아 왔을 때, 그의 벽은 공사장 인부들에 의해 허물어져있고, 그의 개도 보이지 않는다. 방세를 지불하지 못한 움베르토는 결국 쫓겨나고 마침내 자살을 기도하게 되는데...
