A detective who has "four hours to kill" before delivering his prisoner, an escaped killer, spends the time in the lobby of a Broadway theater where a musical is playing. The film focuses on the relationship between the two men, and also between various characters in the theater audience, staff and cast.

A new Broadway show starring Gary Blake shamelessly lampoons the rich Carraway family. To get her own back, daughter Mimi sets out to ensnare Blake, but the courtship is soon for real, to the annoyance of his co-star, hoofing chanteuese Mona Merrick.

Anxiously anticipated by the myriad fans of the legendary composer, Putting It Together marked the return of Carol Burnett to the Broadway musical stage for the first time in over 35 years. Stephen Sondheim has won a record seven Tony Awards for his songwriting, and the Pulitzer Prize for Sunday in the Park with George. His Broadway smash shows and movies include Gypsy, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Sweeney Todd, Dick Tracy, and West Side Story. This Cameron Mackintosh stage production was captured live in performance during its Broadway run and recorded in high definition with a widescreen format using ten cameras and over 40 microphones.

An all-dog cast (with human voiceovers) recreates famous scenes from early musical films, particularly The Broadway Melody. The finale is a chorus line of dogs performing "Singing in the Rain" spoofing Cliff Edwards' original version of the song in The Hollywood Revue of 1929. Also spoofed is Al Jolson's performance of "Mammy" in The Jazz Singer.

Broadway showgirl Evelyn Nesbit (Joan Collins) is the object of affection of two men: playboy architect Stanford White (Ray Milland) and wealthy but unstable Harry Thaw (Farley Granger). She marries Thaw, but White’s continued pursuit puts him in the path of Thaw’s volatile temper. Inspired by true events that occurred at the turn of the 20th century.

A beautiful showgirl, name "the Canary" is a scheming nightclub singer. Blackmailing is her game and with that she ends up dead. But who killed "the Canary". All the suspects knew and were used by her and everyone had a motive to see her dead. The only witness to the crime has also been 'rubbed out'. A theatre critic (Dave O'Brien) teams up with a cop (Jack Mulhall) to investigate the murder of a Broadway actor.

Judy at the Palace. Sinatra at Carnegie Hall. Streisand at the Garden. Stritch on Broadway. Legendary performances come along so rarely. Elaine Stritch At Liberty is an autobiographical one-woman show written by Elaine Stritch and John Lahr. The show consists of spoken monologues from Stritch following her life and career, interspersed with showtunes and pop standards which compliment her stories. Many of these songs had been originated by Stritch in major Broadway productions, such as "The Ladies Who Lunch" from Company and "Civilization" from Angel In The Wings. Her experiences and relationship with show business are focal points, but she also explores more intimate, personal themes like her alcoholism and romantic relationships.

Rick Belrow Livingston, in love with Broadway star Lisa, is sentenced to 30 days in jail for speeding through a small town. He persuades the judge's daughter Cindy to let him leave for one night, so that he can visit Lisa on her birthday. After that he goes on the town with Cindy and she falls in love with him. But Dr. Schemmer wants his son to become her husband.

When the temperamental star of a new Broadway musical revue in rehearsals walks out, director and choreographer Ted Sturgis suggests casting an unknown for the role. When it is announced in the newspapers, throngs of hopefuls show up. The revue's musical composer, Leo Belney, champions ballerina Joanna Moss, while gofer Bob Dowdy is enchanted by novice Suzy Doolittle. Then producer Felix Jordan persuades Ted's former dance partner, Madelyn Corlan, to come out of retirement to try out, much to Ted's great discomfort.

A married singer, pianist/composer team are struggling to hit it big in New York. Finally, they audition before a Broadway producer, but the producer only wants the singer, leaving the husband without a job and feeling a failure.

A young woman (Janet Leigh) leaves her small hometown in Vermont and travels to New York City with hopes of becoming a Broadway star.

아마츄어 쇼 코미디언인 돈 록우드(진 켈리)와 코스모(도날드 오코너)는 공연을 하며 이곳저곳을 떠돌아다니다 뜻대로 되지않자 새 일자리를 얻기위해 헐리우드로 온다. 그런데 우연찮게 돈 록우드는 마뉴멘탈 영화사의 스턴트맨 역을 따내게 되고, 당시 최고의 인기를 누리고 있던 여배우인 리나 레이먼트(쟌 하겐)와 함께 다수의 영화에 출연함으로써 단연 스타로 급부상하게 된다. 그러나 화려한 영광도 잠시, 헐리웃 영화계가 무성영화에서 유성영화 체제로 전환됨으로써 목소리 연기가 너무나 형편없는 리나 레이먼트 때문에 영화를 완전히 망치게 되는데...

스타가 되기 위해 브로드웨이 코러스 다원 모집에 모인 수많은 무용가와 가수들. 코러스 라인의 안무가 자크에게 오디션을 받기 위해 모여든 젊은이들은 거듭되는 테스트를 거치면서 무더기로 떨어져 나가고 수 백 명 중에서 마지막 남은 20여 명은 각자가 자기의 꿈과 인생 역정과 생각을 무대에서 이야기하라는 지시를 받는다. 후보자들이 출생지, 어린 시절, 무용수에의 꿈, 사랑의 경험 등을 이야기하는 동안 자크의 연인이며 오랜동안 뮤지컬 스타였던 캐시가 무일푼이 되어 코러스 일자리라도 얻기 위해 돌아온다. 자크와 무대 감독 래리는 무용 실력이 출중하여 코러스 속에서 튀기 때문에 안된다고 하나, 할리우드에 진출하려고 자크를 떠나던 것은, 캐시가 그에 대한 사랑 때문에 관심을 끌기 위해서였다는 것을 알고 단원으로 받아준다.

한 때는 잘 나갔지만, 지금은 만드는 작품마다 줄줄이 실패하는 뮤지컬 프로듀서 맥스(나단 레인 분)와 소심한 회계사 레오(매튜 브로데릭)가 최악의 공연을 만들기 위해 고군분투하는 내용을 소재로 한 작품으로 공연이 망하면, 오히려 돈을 벌 수 있다는 사실을 알게 된 맥스는 레오를 꼬셔 최악의 공연을 만들기 위해 구제불능의 작가와 연출가, 배우를 섭외하고 이 과정에서 벌어지는 기상천외한 에피소드들이 펼쳐진다.

불경기가 계속되자 파산 상태인 무대 감독 줄리앙 마쉬는 뮤지컬 코미디 '귀여운 숙녀'의 연출 제의를 쾌히 승낙한다. 심하게 병을 앓던 처지라 여생을 편하게 지낼 돈이 필요했기 때문에 그는 쇼의 성공 여부에 연연해한다. 주역을 뽑는 테스트 결과 도로시와 빌리가 선발된다. 연극에서 이미 여러차례 비중있는 역을 해낸 도로시는 제작자 애브너 딜런의 개인적 선택으로 행운을 잡았으며 빌리 또한 잘 알려진 젊은 유망주. 빌리는 브로드웨이 극단에 전혀 경험이 없는 어린 페기에게 호감을 갖게 된다. 그래서 그는 코러스 테스트가 있자 긴장하지 않도록 그녀를 도와주는데 테스트 결과 페기, 안무가의 결프랜드 애니 그리고 로레인이 역할들을 맡게 된다. 그러던 어느날 연출 책임자 마쉬는 도로시가 애브너를 속이고 전 애인인 팻과의 관계를 계속하고 있다는 걸 알게 된다. 그는 제작자인 애브너가 이 사실을 알고 쇼의 후원을 철회한 것을 겁내 사람을 사서 팻에게 폭력을 휘두른다. 주일의 연습 기간이 눈깜짝할 사이에 지나가고 공연팀은 필라델피아에서 첫 공연을 하도록 계획되었다. 그러던 중 도로시는 우연히 팻이 다정하게 페기와 이야기 나누는 것을 목격한다.

A collection of fairy tale characters head into the woods, and soon learn that fairy tales don't end at "happily ever after." This rendition of Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award-winning musical was recorded on the stage with its original all-star Broadway cast.
