Appuchi Gramam (2014)

작은 시골마을의 외톨이 소년 ‘호가드’는 숲속에 불시착한 거대 로봇 ‘자이언트’를 만나 친구가 된다. 겉모습과는 달리 아이처럼 순수한 ‘자이언트’ 와 그를 영혼이 깃든 생명체로 느끼며 보호하려는 ‘호가드’. 과연, ‘호가드’와 ‘자이언트’는 무사히 둘의 우정을 지킬 수 있을까?

혜성의 지구 충돌 속보를 지켜보던 존과 가족들. 미 항공우주국(NASA)의 예측과 달리 해상으로 떨어졌어야 할 파편은 캘리포니아를 비롯해 세계 대도시로 추락해 세계는 순식간에 혼돈에 빠진다. 지구의 3/4을 날려버릴 초대형 혜성 추락까지 남은 시간은 단 48시간. 존과 가족은 지구의 유일한 안전 대피소인 ‘그린란드’의 벙커로 향하는데... 인류의 마지막 카운트다운이 시작된다!

인터넷 중독에 빠진 10대들. 이들이 숲속 오프라인 캠프에 참가한다. 모든 온라인 활동을 뒤로하고, 서로에게 의지해야 하는 시간. 하지만 적응 기간도 잠시, 극한의 공포가 그들을 사로잡는다. 오늘 밤, 숲에서 누군가 죽는다.

천문학과 대학원생 케이트 디비아스키(제니퍼 로렌스)와 담당 교수 랜들 민디 박사(레오나르도 디카프리오)는 태양계 내의 궤도를 돌고 있는 혜성이 지구와 직접 충돌하는 궤도에 들어섰다는 엄청난 사실을 발견한다. 하지만 지구를 파괴할 에베레스트 크기의 혜성이 다가온다는 불편한 소식에 아무도 신경 쓰지 않는다. 지구를 멸망으로 이끌지도 모르는 소식을 사람들에게 알리기 위해 언론 투어에 나선 두 사람. 혜성 충돌에 무관심한 대통령 올리언(메릴 스트립)과 그녀의 아들이자 비서실장 제이슨(조나 힐)의 집무실을 시작으로 브리(케이트 블란쳇)와 잭(타일러 페리)이 진행하는 인기 프로그램 출연까지 이어가지만 성과가 없다. 혜성 충돌까지 남은 시간은 단 6개월. 24시간 내내 뉴스와 정보는 쏟아지고 사람들은 소셜미디어에 푹 빠져있는 시대이지만 정작 이 중요한 뉴스는 대중의 주의를 끌지 못하는데...

원래 마의 황무지는 나훔 가드너라는 농부의 땅이었는데, 어느 날 나훔의 밭 한가운데에 운석이 떨어졌다. 이 운석은 어떤 수용액에도 녹지 않았고, 가만히 놔두면 열을 내면서 증발하여 사라졌다. 분광 스펙트럼을 분석한 결과 지구상에는 존재하지 않는 '색채(Color)'가 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 그러나 이후 나훔의 밭은 완전히 못 쓰게 되어버렸고, 밭에서 나는 식물이 괴상한 색을 띄었다. 나훔의 가족들은 점점 미치거나 죽거나 하면서 점점 파멸해갔다. 운석에서 발생한 괴상한 색채에 잠식되어 죽은 존재는 잿빛으로 변해서 부서져버렸다. 나훔의 집을 자주 찾던 아미는 나훔의 집에 사람이 얼마 남지 않은 걸 확인하고는 마을로 돌아가 경찰을 불러 나훔의 집으로 돌아오나, 나훔과 다른 가족들은 모두 죽은 것만 확인되었고, 도리어 색채가 아미 일행이 있는 나훔의 집을 습격하면서 일행은 위기에 처하게 된다. 겨우 뒷문을 통해 나훔의 집으로부터 멀리 떨어진 언덕까지 도망친 아미 일행은 나훔의 집이 잿빛으로 변해 스러지고, 집터 상공에 우주공간으로 연결된 것으로 보이는 포털이 열리면서 색채가 그곳으로 들어가는 걸 목격한다.

1950년대 SF 컬트 명작으로 손꼽히는 영화. 저예산으로 만들어진 영화 가운데 수작으로 유명하다. 1988년에 "우주 생명체 블롭"이라는 영화로 리메이크 되기도 했다. 어느 날, 지구에 운석이 떨어지고 그 안에 들어있던 젤리 상태의 생명체가 사람을 녹여먹으며 엄청나게 성장해간다. 괴물 자체가 상당히 공포스럽다.

방송국 청소부로 일하는 조는 우연한 기회에 라디오 토크쇼에 출연해 부모를 찾으러 다니며 겪은 사연을 이야기하게 된다. 부모에 대한 단서를 주리라 기대하고 찾아간 사람은 연쇄 살인범이었다는 식의 황당한 이야기가 방송되면서 조는 일약 유명인사가 된다. 결국 조는 부모를 찾는 대신 사랑을 얻게 된다.

운석 충돌로 공기가 유독해지면 작은 마을에서 재난이 벌어진다. 식물, 동물, 그리고 인간은 죽기 시작한다. 이 돌발 사태에 대한 해답을 찾기 위해 생물학자인 로렌만이 위기를 해결할 수 있다. 운석으로 추측된 것은 사실 서식할 수 있는 환경을 조성하기 위해 지구로 보내진 실험 씨앗이다.

Generally, the plot follows the lives and reactions of several characters: an astronomer, her father, her son, two firefighters from Kansas, two young doctors in Dallas and the heads of the government agency in charge of the situation.
