세계1차대전, 온 나라가 승리와 재난을 겪은 가운데, 빛나는 두 이름이 있었다. 마르네와 피아브 전투(The Marne and The Piave.) 작가가 되려는 프레드릭 헨리는 전쟁이 나자 이탈리아군의 의료병으로 자원하여 근무하다 임시 간호원으로 온 영국인 캐서린은 그 사람을 잊지 못하여 헨리중위와의 만남을 쉽게 받아들이지 못한다. 첫 날 만남을 혼돈 속에서 어색한 헤어짐으로 마무리한 캐서린은 그 다음날 이동하게 된 헨리중위를 환송하며 서로의 사랑을 확인한다. 캐서린으로부터 멀리 떨어진 헨리중위는 전투 중 부상을 당하여 후송되는데 친한 의사 리날디 소령에게 부탁하여 캐서린을 자신이 있는 병원으로 오게 한다. 부상으로 입원하여 있는 동안 꿈같은 시간을 함께 보내던 어느 날 캐서린은 자신의 임신 사실을 헨리에게 알리나 유부녀는 전방에 있을 수 없다는 규율 때문에 결혼은 불가하다고 하는데...

사쿠라는 2차대전 말기의 중국에 있는 야전병원에서 간호사로 근무하며, 군의관을 도와 수많은 절단 수술을 돕는다. 광기 가득한 지옥과 같은 곳에서 손발이 잘려 시체처럼 내팽겨진 부상자들에게 그녀는 연민을 느끼고, 군의관과도 사랑에 빠진다. 절망에 빠진 병사들에게 몸을 허락하지만, 진정한 사랑을 갈망하는 여자의 본능을 그린 이색작으로 프랑스에서도 높은 평가를 받은 작품이다.

This film tells several short stories that end up lapsing in the emergency room of a hospital, because it is dedicated to nurses. Cantinflas appears at the end of the film playing the role of Luis, a man who has five daughters and looks forward to a boy, but fate plays a trick and the child dies at birth, but history gives a nice twist and a message of hope.

모르핀 중독자, 요한나는 약의 과다복용으로 인해 혼수상태에 빠졌다가 기적적으로 살아난다. 이후 특별한 능력을 갖게 되는데 병들고 노약한 환자들과 성적 접촉을 함으로써 병을 깨끗하게 낫게 하는 '성적 치료력'이 그것이다. 그런 그녀를 업신여기는 병원 직원들과 반면 그녀를 자비의 천사로 여기는 환자들 사이에 대립이 시작된다. 한마디로 ‘고전적인 오페라와 감각적 실험 정신의 만남’이다. 몬드룩조는 오페라의 풍부한 고전미와 현대의 메마른 정서를 뒤섞어 묘한 감각을 선보이고 있다. 절대 억압이 지배하는 감옥 같은 병원에서 방종에 가까운(혹은 그렇게 보이는) 자유를 극적으로 대조시킴으로써 인간 본연의 본능을 통해 치유를 표현하는 방법론은 아주 흥미롭다. 모르핀 중독자 요한나는 약의 과다복용으로 인해 혼수상태에 빠진다. 그러나 젊은 의사는 죽음에 임박한 그녀를 기적적으로 살려내고 그녀는 완벽히 회복됨은 물론이요, 왠지 다시 태어난 듯한 느낌을 받는다. 이후 그녀는 기억상실증으로 과거를 완전히 잃어버리지만 특별한 능력을 발견하게 되는데 그것은 ‘성적 치료력’. 그녀는 간호사로 일하면서 아픈 환자들에게 그녀의 몸을 주기 시작한다. 그녀의 이런 특이한 치료를 혐오하는 병원 사람들은 그녀를 매춘부라고 부르며 그녀를 억압하려 하지만 그녀를 보호하려는 환자들 때문에 쉽지 않다. 간호사 요한나의 이런 행위는 모든 것이 정체되고 억압된 장소인 병원에서 성을 자유와 치유의 도구로 삼아 기적적으로 환자를 고치는 자비와 사랑의 천사의 것처럼 표현된다. 특히 성적인 관계를 통해 생명의 기운을 불어넣어주는 듯 연출된 장면이 인상적이다.(부천판타스틱영화제 - 이유진)

Honeymooning couple Monica and Mike check into a motel in New Mexico. All seems normal until an ambulance pulls up and abducts Mike. Monica narrowly escapes and, with the help of truck driver Bill, discovers the awful secret of the motel and the ambulance service.

1943년 8월, 제2차 세계대전인 대서양. 임무를 마치고 귀환 중인 미국 잠수함에, 독일 잠수함의 공격으로 이틀전 침몰한 영국 병원선의 생존자들을 구출하라는 명령이 떨어진다. 사고 지점에서 여자 간호사를 포함한 세 명의 생존자들을 구출하여 탑승시키나, 여자가 배에 타면 재수없다는 미신을 믿는 일부 선원들은 탐탁치 않게 여긴다. 그 후 아니나 다를까, 아무도 없는 방의 턴테이블이 저절로 작동되어 음파를 감지한 독일군들에게 폭뢰 공격을 당하고, 선원들이 여기저기서 정체불명의 목소리를 듣고, 유령을 목격하는 등, 불가사의한 일들이 계속해서 벌어진다. 그런 모든 일들이 며칠전에 갑판에서 불의의 사고로 실족사한 함장과 연관되어 있음을 차츰 깨닫게 되는데... 과연 잠수함 승무원들은 독일군의 공격과 유령의 공포를 이기고 무사히 귀환할 수 있을 것인가... 함장의 죽음과 침몰한 영국 병원선에 감춰진 진실은 무엇일까. During the Korean War, Italian nurse Virna Lisi falls in love with two American fliers, Tony Curtis and George C. Scott. Lisi marries Curtis after he convinces her that Scott has been killed in a plane crash. She soon discovers Scott is alive, but remains happily married to Curtis until Scott re-enters their lives 14 years later.
