작은 도시의 극장에서 뮤지컬을 공연하는 개구리 커밋과 그의 친구들은 더 큰 무대, 브로드 웨이로 진출한다. '맨하탄 멜로디'라는 뉴욕에 와서 결혼하는 커플 얘기를 다룬 대본을 들고 많은 제작사들을 찾아다니지만 문전박대를 당하기 일쑤다. 가지고 있던 돈도 바닥이 나고, 커밋에게 너무 의존한다고 생각한 친구들은 헤어져 각자의 길을 찾기로 한다. 커밋은 식당에서 일하면서 틈틈히 제작사를 찾아다닌다. 의상을 전공하는 식당주인의 딸 제니의 도움을 받아 3단계 작전을 실행에 옮기는데 1단계는 제작자를 만나기 위해 은근슬쩍 비서를 따돌리고 후다닥 자기 할말만 하고 나오기. 2단계는 제작자, 투자자들이 자주 이용하는 식당에 가서 '맨하탄 멜로디'라는 뮤지컬이 공연된다는 허위사실 유포 전술. 하지만 어느 곳에서도 연락이 없자 3단계는 실행조차 하지 못한다. 고향으로 돌아가지 않은 피기는 제니와 커밋 사이를 의심하지만 오해는 풀어지고 제니의 식당에서 함께 일하게 된다. 유명한 제작자 버나드 크로프트의 아들 로니 크로프트가 제작하겠다는 얘기를 들은 커밋은 먼저 피기한테 이 기쁜 소식을 전하고 뿔뿔이 흩어진 친구들을 불러모으라고 한다. 하지만 너무 기쁜 나머지 신호등을 보지 못하고 사고를 당해 기억상실증에 걸리고 마는데...

자신의 모습이 지구상의 어떤 동물과도 닮지 않아 늘 자신의 정체성에 대해 고민을 하던 곤조는 단짝 리조와 함께 자신과 닮은 종족을 찾아나서기로 한다. 그런데, 알고보니 자신의 종족들은 먼 행성의 외계인이 아닌가!? 곤조는 미스 피기의 토크쇼 'U.F.O.매니아'에서 우주에 다른 생물체가 살고 있다는 살아있는 증거로 출연하게 되고, 이어에일리언 사냥에 열을 올리던 편집증적 정부요원 K에드가 싱어에게 쫓기는 신세가 된다. 과연 곤조는 싱어를 피해 비행물체 모선(母船)에 몰라 그토록 보고 싶어했던 가족들을 만나러 떠날 수 있을까? 그렇지만 이제껏 사랑을 주고받던 지구의 친구들과 헤어진다는 것은 너무나 큰 아픔인데.

Kermit says the'll take a short peak and be right back. As the Muppets accidentally break into the park, security tries to round them all up as they visit all of the parks. Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney/MGM. Finally, after being round back up, they get a chance to meet the one and only Mickey Mouse and show a huge musical number at the end.
