부드러운 봄의 햇살을 받으며 태어난 지 얼마안되는 아기곰 두스는 엄마곰과 함께 나무뿌리에서 꿀둥지를 파내어 먹고 산다. 그러나 엄마곰이 갑자기 굴러떨어진 바위에 깔려 죽자 혼자가 된 두스는 여기 저기 떠돌아 다닌다. 엄마곰의 보호없이 혼자서 직면하는 세계는 보이는 것 전부가 놀라움의 연속이다. 신기한 개구리, 물고기, 냇물, 꽃, 나비 등. 어느날 두스는 두 사냥꾼의 총에 맞아 상처를 입은 큰 숫곰 바트를 만난다. 두스는 귀찮아하는 바트를 쫓아가 상처를 핥아준다. 이내 친구가 된 두스와 바트는 함께 사냥하여 먹이를 먹고 아기곰 두스는 조금씩 바트를 통해 자연의 섭리를 알아가게 된다. 그러나 사냥개를 데리고 다시 나타난 사냥꾼들은 바트를 쫓지만 두스는 생포된다. 두스를 구하기 위해 나타난 큰곰 바트에게 밀려 절벽에 몰린 사냥꾼들은 죽을 위기에 처하지만 바트는 사냥꾼을 해치지않고 살려준다. 우여곡절 끝에 바트의 곁에 돌아온 두스는 흰눈이 내리는 겨울이오자 바트와 함께 겨울잠을 위해 동굴을 찾는다.

19세기 미국 북서부, 사냥꾼 일행을 따라다니는 요리사 쿠키는 어느 날 숲에서 발가벗은 채 숨어있는 중국인 킹 루를 만난다. 사람을 죽이고 쫓기는 신세인 킹 루에게 하룻밤 잘 곳과 입을 옷을 챙겨 준 뒤 우연히 다시 만난 두 사람은 의기투합하게 된다. 마을에 들어온 암소에게서 몰래 우유를 짜내서 케익을 만들어 파는데 맛있다는 소문이 난다.

1910년, 한 남자가 ‘데르수 우잘라’의 무덤을 찾아오고 시간은 과거로 돌아가 이들의 이야기를 들려준다. 블라디미르는 러시아 오지의 지도를 만들기 위해 탐험을 하던 중 우연히 사냥꾼 데르수를 만난다. 마침 안내인이 필요했던 그는 데르수에게 함께 동행해 줄 것을 요청하고, 이때부터 이들의 인연이 시작된다. 구로사와 아키라 감독이 실존 인물인 데르수 우잘라의 삶을 70mm 카메라로 영화화했다. 1975년 모스크바영화제 감독상 수상.

In the early 1800s, a group of fur trappers and Indian traders are returning with their goods to civilization and are making a desperate attempt to beat the oncoming winter. When guide Zachary Bass is injured in a bear attack, they decide he's a goner and leave him behind to die. When he recovers instead, he swears revenge on them and tracks them and their paranoiac expedition leader down.

New York trapper Tom Dobb becomes an unwilling participant in the American Revolution after his son Ned is drafted into the Army by the villainous Sergeant Major Peasy. Tom attempts to find his son, and eventually becomes convinced that he must take a stand and fight for the freedom of the Colonies, alongside the aristocratic rebel Daisy McConnahay. As Tom undergoes his change of heart, the events of the war unfold in large-scale grandeur.

In the 1830's beaver trapper Flint Mitchell and other white men hunt and trap in the then unnamed territories of Montana and Idaho. Flint marries a Blackfoot woman as a way to gain entrance into her people's rich lands, but finds she means more to him than a ticket to good beaver habitat.

Norman is not just an admirer of nature, he's a part of it. He survives the harshness of the climate and the wildlife by coexisting with it. With his wife Nebraska, they live almost entirely off the land, making money by selling their furs.

1860년대. 제드(빅터 매추어), 가스(제임스 휘트모어), 망고 3명은 모피를 가지고 마을에 가는 도중 인디언에게 습격당한다. 생명은 살아났지만, 팔 것이 없었다. 일행은 샤론 요새의 리단 대위(가이 매디슨)의 척후병이 되었다. 대위가 가스를 포드 요새로 연락을 보내자, 제드는 가스를 염려해서 뒤를 쫓는다. 가스는 부상당해 있었다. 그곳의 지휘는 “시로의 도살자"로 불리는 매스턴 오사(로버트 프레스턴)가 하고 있었다. 대령은 자신의 입신출세를 위해서는 부하도 희생시킨다는 남자로, 제드는 처음부터 대령과 기분이 맞지 않았다. 하지만, 그는 냉혹한 남편에게 지친 대령의 아내 코리나(앤 밴크로프트)에게 마음이 끌렸다. 대령의 심복의 데커 상사는 그러한 제드를 미워했다. 원주민의 동향을 살피기 위해 대령은 스스로 척후에 나간다. 길안내는 제드. 귀도다. 곰을 잡는 구멍에 떨어진 대령을 제드는 버리고 돌아온다. 대령이 죽으면 무모한 싸움은 피할 수 있었다. 우세한 적과 싸운다는 대령의 작전에 제드는 반대였다. 그러나 코리나는 홀로 남편을 찾으러 나간다. 그도 부득이 동행해 대령을 데리고 돌아온다. 대령은 고집대로 토벌 명령을 내린다. 그러면 전멸이 분명했다. 제드는 병사들에게 말해 출격 중지시킨다. 이것을 안 데커는 그를 심문하고, 둘은 성벽에서 싸우다 데커가 떨어져 사망한다. 대령은 화가 났다. 신변의 위험을 알고 제드는 숲으로 피한다. 싸움은 고전에 또 고전이었다. 부대의 위험을 안 제드는 부대에 합류해 스스로 선두를 맡아 부대를 되돌린다. 도중에 대령은 전사한다. 1개월 뒤, 장교에 임명되어 그는 전원에게 처음으로 호령을 한다. 그 모습을 코리나가 응시하고 있었다.

Packaged and sold as an outdoor actioner, Many Rivers to Cross is as much a comedy as anything else. Robert Taylor stars as 18th century trapper Bushrod Gentry, who is himself entrapped into marriage by the spunky Mary Stuart Cherne (Eleanor Parker). Escaping his marital responsibilities (which were impressed upon him on threat of death), Gentry heads into the North Country, with Mary in hot pursuit. Hero and heroine spend the rest of the picture taking turns rescuing each other from hostile Indians. Some of the humor is predicated upon the wholesale slaughter of the "redskins", and as such is a bit hard to take when seen today. Supporting Taylor and Parker are Victor McLaglen as the heroine's burly father, and TV-stars-to be James Arness (Gunsmoke) and Russell Johnson and Alan Hale Jr. (Gilligan's Island).
