시놉시스
미국과 멕시코의 국경 지대에 있는 작은 마을에 톰 부캐넌이란 이름의 사내가 도착한다. 열심히 번 돈과 함께 빨리 고향에 돌아갈 기대에 들떠 있었지만 식당에서 벌어진 살인 사건에 의도치 않게 얽히고 만다. 불의를 보고 그냥 넘어가지 못한 것이다. 순식간에 돈도 뺏기고 감옥에 갇혀 버린 부캐넌은 심지어 교수형에 처해질 위기까지 맞는다.
Richard Dix as Dan Taylor and Preston S. Foster as Paxton Bryce are two longtime friends seeking their fortune in Texas after the war. The two men decide, not without problems, to establish a cattle empire. Paxton becoming too ambitious, distances himself from Dan and Abby, Paxton's wife. 작곡가인 브래드 알렌(록 허드슨)은 브로드웨이의 백만장자 제작자, 조나단 포브스로부터 재정적 후원을 받고 있다. 실내 장식가인 잰 모로우(도리스 데이)는 브래드와 전화선을 나눠 쓰고 있는데, 그녀가 전화 수화기를 들 때마다 브래드가 여러 여자친구들에게 같은 노래를 들려주며, 늘 전화통을 붙들고 사는 모습에 나쁜 감정을 갖게 된다. 한 번도 서로를 보지 못한 사이지만, 브래드는 조나단이 사랑하는 여자 얘기를 할 때, 그녀가 잰임을 알게 되고, 그녀에게 전화해 그간의 일을 사과하고, 데이트를 신청하지만 거절당한다. 나이트클럽 공중전화 부스에서 잰의 목소리를 알아챈 브래드는 곤경에 처한 잰을 도와주고 집까지 바래다주지만, 잰이 자신에게 감정이 좋지 않다는 것을 안 브래드는 자신을 텍사스 출신의 순진한 남자, 렉스 스테츤으로 위장하고 끈질기게 접근한다. 조나단은 사립탐정을 통해 잰이 좋아하는 남자가 브래드라는 걸 알고, 브래드에게 새로운 일을 맡기며 시골 별장으로 보내버린다. 브래드는 조나단의 속셈을 알고 잰을 별장으로 데려가고, 조나단은 아파트에서 잰을 기다린다. 잰과 브래드는 별장에 도착해 각자의 방에 가는데, 거실로 나온 잰은 브래드의 가방에 있던 악보를 발견하고 연주를 해본다. 전화로 듣던 곡임을 알게 된 잰은 브래드의 속임수를 깨닫고, 때마침 나타난 조나단과 함께 떠난다. 잰과 멀어진 브래드는 상심하지만, 잰의 하녀인 알마를 통해, 잰에게 자신의 아파트에 실내 장식 일을 맡기기로 한다. 잰은 작업을 하는 동안 브래드에게 나가있으라고 하고, 그의 아파트를 촌스럽게 꾸며준다. 실내 장식이 끝난 자신의 아파트를 본 브래드는 화가 나서 잰의 아파트로 달려가, 침대에 있던 잰을 안아들고 자신의 아파트로 와 소파에 내동댕이친다. 브래드가 잰에게 촌스러운 아파트에서 살라고 소리치며 나가려는 순간, 잰은 장치해뒀던 스위치를 눌러 문을 잠그고 조명도 꺼버린다. 브래드는 돌아서며 잰에게 미소를 짓는다.
