자전거 경기에서 챔피언이 되고 싶어하는 주인공 데이브(Dave: 데니스 크리스토퍼 분)는 이태리 자전거 팀의 선수가 되는 게 꿈으로, 이태리 오페라 레코드를 들으며 이태리인 흉내를 내는 게 특기다. 그는 이태리 팀을 우상시하며 자전거 경기에서의 1등을 꿈꾸지만 정작 데이브의 아버지는 이태리인 행세를 하는 아들을 매우 못마땅해 한다. 데이브에게는 세 명의 친구가 있는데 데이브보다 조금 더 현실적인 고교 시절의 풋볼스타 마이크(Mike: 데니스 퀘이드 분), 키에 대한 컴플렉스를 가지고 있는 조그마한 무처(Moocher: 재키 얼리 헤일리 분), 그리고 에릭 세버레이드와 우디 앨런을 인용하길 좋아하는 시릴(Cyril: 데니스 스턴 분)이 바로 그들. 어느 날 데이브는 캐시(Katherine: 로빈 더글라스 분)라는 여학생을 사랑하게 되고 그녀에게 접근하기 위해 이태리 교환 학생으로 신분을 속였다가 퇴짜를 맞는다. 게다가 자전거 경기에 나갔다 자기의 우상이었던 이태리 팀에게 골탕을 먹고 다치기까지 하자, 그도 마음을 달리 먹는데...

시한부 생명을 살고 있는 케빈 코스트너가 싸이클에 소질이 있는 동생 (데이비드 먀살 그랜트)과 함께 3일간 펼쳐지는 지옥의 랠리 시합에 참가하며 두 형제는 다시 한번 뜨거운 형제애를 확인하고 결국 우승컵을 거머쥐고 만다. 그리고 오래동안 헤어진 어머니와 두 형제는 뜨거운 포옹을 하며 영화는 끝을 맺는다.

실존 인물 그레이엄 오브레의 파란만장한 인생을 극화한 영화.유난히 고집과 자존심이 강했던 오브레는 어린 시절 또래 아이들에게 늘 괴롭힘을 당했지만, 누구에게도 일러바치지 않는다. 그런 아들에게 아버지는 스스로 이겨내라며 크리스마스 선물로 사이클을 안겨준다. 오브레는 페달질을 통해서 자신에게 주어진 고난과 역경을 헤치며 성장한다. 어른이 되었을 때 그는 사이클 세계 챔피언이 되기 위해 험난한 여정에 오른다.

In 1998 Marco Pantani, the most flamboyant and popular cyclist of his era, won both the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia, a titanic feat of physical and mental endurance that no rider has repeated since. He was a hero to millions, the saviour of cycling following the doping scandals which threatened to destroy the sport. However, less than six years later, aged just 34, he died alone, in a cheap hotel room, from acute cocaine poisoning. He had been an addict for five years. This is the story of the tragic battles fought by the most important Italian cyclist of his generation; man verses mountain, athlete verses addiction, Marco Pantani verses himself.

Akira, Takeshi, Yasu, and Shun are a gang of four close friends, all of whom were core members of their high-school ekiden team. Although they were stars back in those days, having slacked up their efforts subsequently, their daily life is lackluster now that the age of forty is just around the corner. They talk at a favorite local tavern just like they used to after Akira comes home giving up his dream to become an actor. Thinking back, they have never accomplished anything but ekiden, and they have unknowingly acquired a tendency to run away from problems in life in general.
