캠프 슬래셔물 슬리퍼웨이 캠프의 세 번째 작품

어느 날, 패스트푸드점 ‘헬라버거’에 차를 몰고 온 4명의 불량 학생들이 인터콤 시스템에서 나오는 욕에 분을 참지 못하고 상대방을 찾으러 들어갔다가 ‘헬라버거’의 마스코트인 광대 ‘호니’ 에게 처참하게 살해 당하는 일이 발생한다. 한편, 그들과 같은 학교에 다니는 여학생 맥켄지는 남자친구 피셔를 포함한 친구들을 불러 파티를 하게 된다. 친구들과 파티를 하던 도중 그녀는 이상한 번호를 받게 되고 그 날 그녀의 친구들 역시 광대 호니에게 끔찍한 살해를 당하게 된다. 그 다음날 맥켄지는 이 번호가 죽은 학생들이 타고 있던 차라는 것을 알게 되고, 이후 자신을 둘러싼 친구들이 하나 둘 계속해서 영문 모를 살인의 희생양이 되어감과 동시에 그녀는 그에 대한 단서를 하나 둘 받게 된다. 그녀는 과연 살아남을 수 있을까?

살인귀 크랍시(Cropsy: 로우 데이빗 분)는 때와 장소를 불문하고 각지에 출몰하여 닥치는 대로 잔인한 학살을 계속한다. 목격자의 증언에 의하면 그의 흉기는 거대한 가위같다고 한다. 조사에 따르면 크랍시는 수년전에 사고로 전신 화상을 입고 흉한 모습이 되어 세상으로부터 자취를 감춘 뒤, 자신을 저주받은 운명으로 만든 자들에게 복수의 칼을 휘두르는 것으로 추측된다. 엄중한 지명 수배의 수사망을 뚫고 어디로 사라졌으며, 그의 목적은 무엇이며 언제, 어디서 참혹한 희생이 발생할지도 모르는 상태에서 크랍시는 사람들을 끝없는 불안과 공포의 분위기로 몰아 넣는다.

설정이 재미있는 이 캠프 슬래셔는 부유한 10대들과 가난한 10대들을 구분 지은 뒤 이들이 함께 생활하도록 3개의 팀을 나눈 상황에서 이야기가 전개된다. 안젤라는 그 중 첫 번째 팀에 끼고 첫 번째 팀에 있는 모든 10대들을 다 죽인 뒤, 두 번째 팀으로 넘어오는 식으로 살인을 전개한다.

크리스탈 캠프의 피의 복수가 펼쳐진 후, 2편에서 간신히 살아남은 여주인공은 결국 공포로 미치게 된다. 몇년 후 6명의 젊은 남녀가 다시 이곳을 찾는다. 괴인에게 겁탈당한 아픔을 치유하려는 여주인공, 마약 상습 커플과 해괴한 장난으로 자신을 인정받고 싶어하는 남자 등이 함께 크리스탈 호수옆에 있는 통나무집에서 여름을 지내고자 한다. 복수의 화신 제이슨은 차례로 한명씩 처참하게 살해하고, 이제 그들의 밤은 공포로 뒤덮히게 된다.

맥스(타이사 파미가)의 엄마 아맨다 카트라이트(말린 애커맨)는 1980년대 출연했던 공포영화 ‘피바다 캠프’를 대표작으로 남긴 채 교통사고로 세상을 떠난다. 그로부터 3년 후, 맥스는 친구의 오빠인 공포영화광 던컨이 개최한 ‘피바다 캠프’ 추모 상영회에 마지못해 참석한다. 그런데 영화 상영 중에 극장에서 화재가 발생하고, 맥스와 친구들은 영화의 배경과 똑같은 1986년의 숲속 캠프장에서 깨어난다. 그곳에서 맥스 일행은 아맨다가 역할을 맡은 낸시와 최후까지 살아남는 ‘파이널 걸’ 폴라 등 자신들이 관람하던 영화 속 주인공들과 만나게 된다. 비로소 ‘피바다 캠프’ 영화 속에 갇혔다는 사실을 깨달은 맥스 일행은 곧바로 살인마 빌리의 표적이 되어 쫓긴다. 이들은 영화처럼 폴라가 빌리를 죽일 때를 기다리지만, 도리어 폴라가 빌리에게 죽음을 당하는데...

1958년, 크리스탈 호수 야영장은 제이슨이란 어린 소년이 익사한 후, 두 명의 캠프 지도 학생이 누군가에게 살해된 사건 이후 폐쇄되었다. 이곳에 제이슨의 저주가 내렸다고 믿는 마을 사람들의 수많은 경고에도 불구하고 야심만만한 스티브 크리스티(Steve Christy: 피터 브라우너 분)는 이곳을 다시 열기로 하고 젊은이들을 고용해 야영장을 단장한다. 때는 마침 익사한 제이슨의 생일인 13일의 금요일이고, 스티브의 야심은 연쇄 살인을 촉발시키는 결과를 초래한다. 야영장의 젊은이들이 하나 둘 차례차례 살해되고, 유일한 생존자가 된 앨리스(Alice: 에드리언 킹 분) 앞에 드디어 범인의 정체가 드러난다. 살인자는 제이슨의 어머니인 브리스 부인(Mrs. Voorhees: 벳시 팔머 분). 아들의 죽음은 당시 야영장 직원들의 무심함 때문이라고 원망하며 복수에 불타있는 브리스 부인은 야영장이 다시 개장되는 것을 용서할 수 없다. 그러나 앨리스의 반격으로 최후를 맞이하고, 폭풍이 지나간 듯 어둠이 걷히고 아침이 찾아온다. 호수에서 배를 탄 채 탈진해 있는 앨리스, 모든 것이 끝났다고 마음을 놓았던 그 순간, 물속에서 솟구쳐 올라온 제이슨에게 끌려 호수에 빠진다. 다행히 구조되어 병원에서 눈을 뜬 앨리스, 그러나 제이슨을 보지못했다고 전하는 경찰의 말에 다시 아득해진다.

1편이 선보인 일년 후 또 다시 찾아온 제이슨의 공포. 오래 전 소년 제이슨이 호수에서 익사했고 얼마 전에는 그 어머니가 젊은이들의 살육했던 크리스탈 호수의 캠프장. 캠프장의 교사 일곱명이 제이슨의 어머니에게 살해당한 5년 전의 끔찍한 사건은 전설처럼 그 지방을 떠돈다. 크리스탈 호수 근처의 또 다른 캠프장에 젊은 교사들이 들어온다. 그들은 이곳을 떠나라는 경고도 무시한 채...

A group of friends head out for what is expected to be a vacation of hiking, camping and a good time, but when a backwoods mama finds them on her turf, it becomes anything but a vacation.

1980년대 엉청나게 쏟아져 나왔던 슬래셔 무비중 하나로 당시 꽤 인기가 있었는지 무려 4편까지 제작이 되었다. 캠프에서 벌어지는 살인마의 살육이 주요내용으로 하이틴 에로(?) 공포영화라 할 수 있다. 아마도 그때 나왔던 대부분의 슬래셔 무비들이 이런 구성을 띄고 있을 것이다. 영화 시작부터 살인마가 누구인지 보여줌으로써 관객들이 머리 아프게 누가 범인일까 추리해야할 수고를 덜어 주고 있다. 단순히 앞으로 어떤 도구에 의해서 얼마나 처참하게 죽어나갈지, 어떤 여배우가 윗도리를 벗고 자신의 가슴을 보여줄지 기대하며 영화를 관람하면 되는것이다. 후자는 어느정도 성공한 것 같다. 너무도 쉽게 시도때도 없이, 자랑이라도 하듯 화면 가득 가슴을 보여준다. 하지만 전자는 그런 기대를 저버린다. 드릴, 전기톱, 기타줄, 푸세식 화장실 등 여러가지 살인 도구들을 사용하지만 상당히 어설프고, 전혀 무섭게 느껴지지가 않는다. 슬래셔 무비라 할 수 있지만 끔찍한 살육 같은건 없다. 그저 정신나간 여자가 사람들을 어설프게 죽이는게 전부이며 마지막의 널부러져 있는 시체들이 전부이다. 물론 이 시체들도 상당히 허접하다. 정말 슬래셔 무비라면 확실히 끔찍하게 살육하는 장면을 더더욱 많이 담았어야 할 것 같다.

영어 캠프의 선발대로 스페인의 외딴 마을을 찾은 4명의 남녀는 어딘지 모르게 스산한 마을 사람들의 시선을 느낀다 그 날 밤, 낡은 저택의 지하실에서 무언가를 찾던 안토니오는 급작스런 광기와 분노를 일으키며 주변에 있는 모든 것들을 공격하고 당황한 일행들은 황급히 저택에서 도망쳐 나온다. 한 숨 돌리려는 순간, 일행 중 한 명인 미셸이 갑자기 피를 토하며 분노에 가득 찬 무차별 공격을 시작한다 별다른 이상징후 없이 급속도로 퍼지기 시작한 분노 바이러스는 곧 마을 전체로 퍼지고 필사적으로 도망치던 크리스티와 윌은 저택으로 돌아와 출입문을 폐쇄하는데…

미치 토레스(데미 로바토)는 일생일대의 기회를 잡게 된다. 유수의 음악 캠프 '캠프락'에 갈 수 있게 된 것. 음악적 재능을 갈고닦기 위해 노력하는 미치는 곧 캠프 참가자들도 못지않게 노력한다는 사실을 알게 된다. 꾸밈없는 자신의 모습을 보여주는 것이 중요하단 걸 깨닫는 미치. 진정한 자신의 모습을 찾고 새로운 영감을 얻기 위해 캠프에 참여한 지도자 셰인 그레이(조 조나스)의 도움으로 미치는 두려움을 넘어서 무대 위의 스포트라이트를 향해 나아간다.

캠프 이후 더욱 성장한 모습으로 돌아온 미치와 셰인은 캠프 락에서 또다시 음악이 함께하는 멋진 여름을 보내려 한다. 미치가 친구들과 다시 만나 신나고 들뜬 마음으로 부르는 ‘Brand New Day’는 캠프 락에서의 새로운 여름을 기대하게 한다. 어떤 구애도 받지않고, 꿈을 펼칠 수 있는 곳에서 같은 열정을 가진 친구들과 함께 한다면 더 없이 멋진 일이 아닐까?

Whoever remains at the end of twenty-four hours will split a million dollars.
