고요한 초록빛의 다뉴브 강가. 이 곳에 터를 닦아 자손을 낳고 살고 있는 두 집시 집안이 있다. 먼저 1세대. 그르가와 자리야. 그들은 생사고락을 함께 한 친구사이지만 25년동안 만나지 않을 정도로 애증 관계에 있다. 다음으로 자리야의 아들인 마초. 그는 그르가의 옛 똘마니였던 다단과 역시 서로 씹고 씹히는 관계 속에서 근근히 우정을 유지하고 있는 2세대 친구간이다. 그리고 3세대. 마초의 외아들 자레와 다단의 여동생 딱정벌레 이름은 따로 있지만 난쟁이만한 키를 가진 그녀를 두고 사람들은 그렇게 부른다. 이제 이야기의 전개는 2세대부터. 집안을 책임져야 하는 처지이지만 늘 놀고 먹는 한심한 백수, 마초 어쩌다 결혼식을 앞둔 하루 전, 천지신명의 도움인지 손자를 도와주려는 할아버지의 마지막 베품인지, 자리야가 세상을 뜬다. 마초는 당장 다단에게 달려가 결혼식과 장례식을 한꺼번에 치룰 수 없다고 하지만 다단을 사망소식을 사흘 후로 연기할 것을 종용한다. 어쩔 수 없이 다음 날, 마초의 집 마당에선 결혼식이 치뤄지고 혼인 서약이 울려퍼진다. 난장판 분위기의 피로연. 급기야 난쟁이 신부가 도망을 치는데. 한편 일전에 사업 자금을 꾸러 온 마초의 거짓말로 친구가 죽은 줄 알고 있던 그르가. 그는 키다리 손자와 뚱땡이 손자를 데리고 친구의 묘를 방문하러 이 말으로 오고 있던 중 이었다. 오는 도중 길을 잃은 그르가의 마차는 도망치던 신부와 맞딱뜨리게 되고 이 순간 불꽃이 튀는 두 사람이 생긴다. 딱정벌레와 그르가의 키다리 손자. 둘은 운명적인 만남을 감지하고 첫눈에 사랑에 빠지는데. 그르가의 등장으로 인해 한때 그의 돈을 떼먹었던 다단은 울며겨자먹기로 여동생과 키다리 손자와의 결혼을 승낙하고, 자레는 사랑하던 마을 처녀와 짝이 지워진다. 그러나 불행하게도 그날 밤 그르가마저 세상을 뜬다. 자 이제 자신이 원하던 짝을 되찾았던 이 두 커플은 어찌 될 것인가?

이 영화는 크게 세 부분으로 나누어져 있다. 첫째, 시인 큐버크의 전위 예술과도 같은 행위로 이끌어지는 자본주의 문화에 대한 유머러스한 비판. 시인은 뉴욕 시내에서 낡아빠진 철모에 싸구려 장난감 소총을 들고 활보한다. 모두가 비웃으며 지나가지만, 그의 표현은 자본주의의 바탕에 군사적 압제와 힘이 도사리고 있음을 암시한다. 둘째, 독일 공산주의자인 동시에 프로이트의 제자였던 정신 분석학자 빌헬름 라이히의 일생과 업적에 관한 다큐멘터리 같은 필름. 실상 이 영화의 가장 핵심은 빌헬름 라이히이다. 그는 인간의 발랄한 성적 표현과 쾌락을 통해서 모든 정신적, 정치적 억압을 벗고 진정한 자유로움을 단숨에 얻을 수 있다고 강조했다. 금욕적인 공산주의 진영과 역시 청교도적인 자본주의 진영(특히 미국) 모두에서 배척당해 철저한 이단아가 되었지만, 그후 6,70년대 성해방을 거치며 그의 주장은 새롭게 재해석되었던 것이다. 그의 이론의 핵심은 우주에 존재하는 '오르곤' 에너지를 섹스를 통해 흡수한다는 것인데, 동양의 기(氣)나 도교의 성(性)과 매우 유사하다. 셋째, 유고에서 벌어지는 성과 정치의 변증법에 관한 마카베예프의 주장이다. 솔직한 충동과 마음을 거부하는 위선적인 삶을 살지 말고, 자유로움을 구가하며 표현하는 것이 심신 모두에 좋다는 이야기다. 이 이야기는 한 여공의 힘찬 연설로 진행되는데, 마치 그녀의 연설을 뒷받침하기라도 하듯 뒷방에서는 한창 그녀의 친구와 애인이 섹스에 열중하는 모습을 번갈아 보여준다. 그리고 어느 날 그 여공은 우연히 만난 남자와 섹스를 나누다가 쾌락에 너무 취한 나머지 두려움 속에서 그가 휘두른 스케이트날에 목이 잘려 죽고 만다. 그러나 칙칙한 살인 사건으로 흐르는 대신에 참회의 노래를 부르며 새로운 날을 기약하는 남자를 그녀는 미소로 용서한다.

Blue Train is Serbian atipic teenage comedy. Just before Tito's death a high school graduates in Belgrade live their normal life before the end of the school year. Spring is relaxed and they organize the election "Princess Of Spring" for the most beautiful girl in school. Vojislav is in love with Anica, friend from class. While his best friend, convinces him that the organization of the miss elections is the best way to win Anica's heart. Milena has crush in Vojislav, and she want to spoil his plan. After the death of professor of Marxism, in the school comes a new, very young and ambitious professor Božičković, a former pupil of the school. His charm and informal dress manages to win the sympathy of students, especially girls. Professor Božičković like Anica, and he shows that in front of the class. Anica and Vojislav do not appritiate that.

She hitchikes and Gavran almost runs her over. She is unhurt, but she blackmails him to take her to Dubrovnik. Two people from different worlds, equally removed from the real one. For him she is the first woman he can talk to; for her he is just another idiot to add to the long list of them that she has so far compiled. But the pressure of danger and the intimations of war force them together. The world about them has become so absurd that they seem to each other the only sober people left.
