러브 포 세일 (2017)

예수를 닮은 한 사내. 이름 모를 기이하고도 그로테스크한 곳에 떨어졌다. 그는 벌거벗은 채로 난쟁이를 따라 얽히고 설킨 ‘세상’에 조금씩 눈을 뜨게 되고, 복잡한 세상을 정신없이 헤매던 그는 기묘한 여정에 들어서게 된다. 우선 사내는 우연히 신비의 지도자를 만나게 된다. 지도자를 통해 ‘연금술’의 능력을 배우면서 인정을 받게 된 그는 세상에서 가장 부유하고 영향력 있는 7명의 인물을 만난다. 이 7명의 인물들은 태양계의 행성들을 각각 수호하고 있다. 이후 예수를 닮은 사내와 지도자, 7명의 수행원들은 속세의 물건을 모두 버리고 신의 일을 대신하고 있는 불사의 현자들을 찾아 성스러운 산으로 길을 나선다. 그들이 성스러운 산을 오르기까지 과연 어떤 놀랄만한 사건들이 그들을 엄습해 올 것인가. 성스러운 산에 올라 깨달음을 얻기까지의 과정은 절대 쉽지 않다.

잘 생긴 모델 폴(사가모르 스테브냉)과 동거하는 여교사 마리(카롤린 뒤세)는 폴이 자아도취에 빠져 그녀와의 섹스를 거부하자 다른 남자 상대를 찾아 나선다. 정력의 화신 같은, 대단한 성기를 지닌 파올로(로코 시프레디)와 만나 성교한 마리는 그럼에도 불구하고 그에게 마음을 주지 않는다. 두 번째 상대인 학교 교장 로베르는 수많은 여자를 정복했다고 으시대는 역겨운 중년 남자지만 그가 제시하는 변태 성교의 세계에 마리는 빠져든다.

애니는 일주일 전 돌아가신 엄마의 유령이 집에 나타나는 것을 느낀다. 애니가 엄마와 닮았다며 접근한 수상한 이웃 조안을 통해 엄마의 비밀을 발견하고, 자신이 엄마와 똑같은 일을 저질렀음을 알게 된다. 그리고 마침내 애니의 엄마로부터 시작돼 아들 피터와 딸 찰리에게까지 이어진 저주의 실체가 정체를 드러내는데…

루이 13세 시대의 프랑스, 리슐리외 추기경(크리스토퍼 로그)은 자신의 통제권 밖에 있는 도시를 장악하기 위해 음모를 꾸민다. 추기경과 그 추종자들이 권력 장악을 위해서는 그랑디에 신부(올리버 리드)를 제거해야 한다. 그랑디에 신부는 요새화된 도시를 운영하는 성직자로 리슐리외 추기경이 프랑스 전체를 장악하는 데 방해가 됐던 것이다. 이에 리슐리외는 권력가이자 호색한인 그랑디에 신부를 고발하기로 하고, 그랑디에 신부에게 성적으로 집착하는 잔느 수녀(바네사 레드그레이브)를 그 음모에 끌어들인다. 악마에 홀려 있는 그 수녀는 그랑디에 신부에 대한 성적인 강박관념에 사로잡힌 인물이다. 악마로 고발당한 그랑디에의 재판이 진행되면서 수녀원은 점차 폭력과 광기로 물들어간다. 광적인 마녀 사냥이 점점 극단적으로 변해 가고 인간의 악마적인 본성이 적나라하게 드러나게 된다.

신성한 도시 베나레스를 배경으로, 상류층 소녀와 금지된 사랑에 빠진 청년과, 주홍글씨를 달고 살아가는 여성의 이야기가 펼쳐진다. 삶과 죽음이 공존하는 곳에서 가혹한 운명의 덫에 걸린 이들의 눈물겨운 삶에도 과연 희망이 있을까? [제 20회 부산국제영화제]
