The Dam (2018)

In 1945, as Stalin sets his hands over Poland, famous painter Wladislaw Strzeminski refuses to compromise on his art with the doctrines of social realism. Persecuted, expelled from his chair at the University, he's eventually erased from the museums' walls. With the help of some of his students, he starts fighting against the Party and becomes the symbol of an artistic resistance against intellectual tyranny.

The Polish scientist tested boundaries of human mental resilience in extreme conditions of solitude in Antarctica. The starting point for Piotr Jaworski's documentary is the psychologist's journal. The project from forty years ago was focused on studying the mental condition of polar explorers at the Polish station. Men were in the situation of confinement, comparable to a space mission. The film reconstructs these events, referring to the then contemporary context and changes in the perception of science.

In the city water pump there are 8 clams. The lives of millions of people depend on them. In case of contamination of water supply, the clams will close and automatically shut off the water for the city. The main scientist-malacologist watches over the system's operation. The film is a philosophical essay on dependence people from nature and the world around them.

평범하고 쾌활한 백인 처녀 조우이는 여행 중에 만난 존과 사랑에 빠진다. 존은 장래가 촉망되는 유능한 젊은 의사이지만 전처와 아이가 사고로 죽었다. 하지만 문제는 그것이 아니라 그가 흑인이라는 것. 어느 정도 사회적으로 성공한 조우이의 부모 맷과 크리스티나는 하나 밖에 없는 외동딸이 결혼한답시고 데리고 온 존을 보고 기겁한다. 맷은 아무래도 흑인과 결혼하는 것이 달갑지 않아 어떠게 해서든지 막아야 할 생각뿐이고, 크리스티나 역시 흑인인 사위가 반갑진 않으나 그래도 딸을 믿기에 딸의 뜻대로 따르려고 한다. 이때 조우이는 이날 저녁 식사에 존의 부모도 초대하기로 한다. 이날 처음 아들이 결혼하겠다는 며느리가 백인 처녀임을 안 존의 부모의 표정도 조우이의 부모와 마찬가지다. 모두들 생각이 깊은 양가 부모들은 이 문제를 이성적으로서 해결하고자 여러 모로 고심한다. 이때 아내와 딸, 조우이와 존, 그리고 흑인 가정부 아주머니까지 모든 사람들로부터 각기 다른 의견으로 압력을 받고 있던 맷은 결국 명쾌한 결론을 제시함으로써 문제가 해결된다. 그것은 두 사람의 결혼으로 인한 모든 문제, 즉 결혼을 하느냐 마느냐도 결국은 두 사람의 사랑에 맡기는 수밖에 없다는 것이었다. 이로서 이들은 모두 유쾌하게 저녁식사를 시작한다.

But Beksiński never believed that family life would always be sunshine and rainbows. As he tapes everything with his beloved camcorder, the 28-year Beksiński saga unfolds through paintings, near-death experiences, dance music trends and funerals...

When peasant girl Nives is deserted by smuggler Gino Lodi, she betrays him to the police. Police officer Enzo Cinti, who loves Nives, traces her to the Po River cane-fields, where she is working as a cutter to support herself and an infant son, and warns her that Gino has escaped from prison and is seeking revenge. She rejects his offer to protect her. Gino finds Nives, mourning the drowning death of their son. He surrenders himself to the police and then walks at Nives' side in the funeral procession.

2092년 죽음을 눈앞에 둔 118살 '니모'는 한 기자와의 인터뷰를 통해 인생의 첫 번째 선택을 떠올린다. 9살의 '니모'가 이혼하게 된 부모님 중 한 명을 선택하게 된 것. 그 선택을 시작으로 '니모'는 각기 다른 아홉 가지 인생을 살게 된다. 어머니를 선택한 15살의 ‘니모’는 새아버지의 딸 '안나'와 깊은 사랑에 빠지지만 어른들의 거센 반대에 부딪히고, 아버지를 선택한 15살의 '니모'는 또 다른 소녀 '앨리스'와 '진'을 만나며 첫사랑의 아픔을 겪는다. 그리고 34살의 니모는 헤어진 '안나'를 찾으러 다니는 수영장 관리인, '앨리스'와 결혼한 다큐멘터리 진행자, '진'과 결혼한 성공한 사업가로 각각 다른 인생을 살아간다. 이야기를 마친 118살 '니모'는 무엇이 진짜 인생이었는지, 무엇이 더 행복한 인생이었는지를 묻는다.
