먼 옛날 인간들은 모르던 지하 왕국, 행복과 평화로 가득 찬 환상의 세계에 공주가 있었다. 햇빛과 푸른 하늘이 그리웠던 공주는 인간 세계로의 문을 열고 만다. 하지만 너무나 눈부신 햇살에 공주는 기억을 잃은 채로 죽어갔다. 꿈 많은 소녀 오필리아는 만삭인 엄마와 함께 군인인 새아버지의 부대 저택으로 이사를 간다. 하지만 자신을 못마땅해 하는 냉혹한 새아버지에게 두려움을 느끼는 데다, 신비한 숲으로 둘러싸인 저택의 이상한 분위기에 잠을 못 이루던 오필리아에게 요정이 나타난다. 신비로운 모습에 이끌린 오필리아는 요정을 따라 미로로 들어가게 되고 거기서 판이라는 기괴한 요정을 만나는데...

The story of the tortuous struggle against the silence of the victims of the dictatorship imposed by General Franco after the victory of the rebel side in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1975). In a democratic country, but still ideologically divided, the survivors seek justice as they organize the so-called “Argentinian lawsuit” and denounce the legally sanctioned pact of oblivion that intends to hide the crimes they were subjects of.

1994년 영국 리버플의 한 시영공립 주택에서 한 노인이 사망한다. 그날 밤 유품 정리를 하던 손녀는 낡은 가방 하나를 발견하다. 그 안에는 오래된 편지 뭉치, 스페인 내란에 관한 신문 스크랩, 청춘의 할아버지와 동지들이 무장한 채 찍은 1936년 바르셀로나라는 문구가 씌어진 옛 사진들과 붉은 리본을 말라붙은 흙으로 싸둔 손수건, 그리고 스페인 공화파를 옹호하며 모임을 선전하는 삐라가 들어 있다. 1936년 리버플의 모임에서 한 스페인 시민군이 노동자들의 참전을 독려하는 열정적인 연설을 한다. 그는 프랑코의 스페인 공화정부에 반란상황을 설명하면서 유럽의 민주정부들의 도움을 거부하고 국제 노동자들의 참여를 호소한다. 그의 호소에 감동을 받은 데이빗은 실업수당을 받고 배고픈 시위를 하는 영국에서의 생활에 염증을 느끼고 스페인으로 가기로 한다.

An exploration —manipulated and staged— of life in Las Hurdes, in the province of Cáceres, in Extremadura, Spain, as it was in 1932. Insalubrity, misery and lack of opportunities provoke the emigration of young people and the solitude of those who remain in the desolation of one of the poorest and least developed Spanish regions at that time. (Silent short, voiced in 1937 and 1996.)

The others can not got to school because the master "needs" their work. When Regula's brother is fired from where he has worked for 61 years, he settles down at their little place...
