(2012 한국영상자료원 - 베르너 헤어조크 감독전) 베르너 헤어조크의 장편 데뷔작. 그리스의 크레타 섬에서 창고를 지키는 임무를 맡은 독일군이 주인공이다. 이들은 전쟁 중임에도 그것과 무관하게 반복되는 일상에서 서서히 미쳐간다. 전혀 고립된 보이지 않는 환경에서 스스로 고립되어 가는 인간군상이라는 모티프는 이후 헤어조크 영화에 등장하게 되는 인물들에 대한 예고편과도 같다. 헤어조크는 이 작품으로 베를린 영화제에서 은곰상을 받으며 주목을 받았다. 1940년, 지하운동에 가담해 나치 정권에 저항하던 독일인 쿠르트 뮬러는 아내 사라와 세 자녀를 데리고 사라의 어머니와 남동생이 사는 미국 워싱턴으로 온다. 지난 17년 동안 유럽에서 反 파시스트 활동에 참여하며 나치 정권에 맞서온 쿠르트는 온갖 수난의 상처로 여유로운 장모의 집에서 안정을 취하기로 하지만, 그는 가족들을 이곳에 맡겨둔 채 본격적인 지하운동을 준비한다. 한편, 이 저택에는 독일 대사관을 드나들며 나치당원들에게 비위를 맞춰온 루마니아인 텍 드 브랑코비스란 유숙객이 있었다. 첫눈에 쿠르트를 의심한 텍은 쿠르트의 가방에서 총과 돈을 발견하고 그가 지하 요원임을 알아챈다. 얼마 지나지 않아, 쿠르트의 저항군 동료인 막스 프라이당크가 체포되었다는 소식이 이곳에 전해진다. 과거 막스의 도움으로 게슈타포의 손아귀에서 벗어날 수 있었던 쿠르트는 막스와 함께 체포된 사람들을 돕기 위해 독일로 돌아갈 계획을 세운다. 유럽으로 돌아가 재기를 꿈꾸는 텍은 쿠르트에게 나치에게 함구하겠다는 조건으로 만 달러를 요구한다. 심사숙고 끝에, 텍을 믿을 수 없다고 결론을 내린 쿠르트는 그를 쏴 죽이고 나치의 심장부를 향해 길을 나선다.

In 1933, 20,000 Japanese soldiers and 50 tanks invaded the Pa Tou Lou Tzu, a strategic key point of the Great Wall. With only seven men stationing, these heroes took on the entire army for five days before succumbing. Director Chang Cheh recreated this epic battle with his favorite cast including Ti Lung, David Chiang, Alexander Fu Sheng and Chen Kuan-tai, as a celluloid tribute to these nameless souls.

In autumn of 1526, the Emperor, Charles V, sends his German landsknechts led by Georg von Frundsberg to march towards Rome. The inferior papal armies, commanded by Giovanni de'Medici, try to chase them in the midst of a harsh winter. Nevertheless, the Imperial armies manage to cross the rivers along their march and get cannons thanks to the maneuvers of its Lords. In a skirmish, Giovanni de'Medici is wounded in the leg by a falconet shot. The attempts to cure him fail and he dies. The Imperial armies assault Rome. The film is beautifully but unassumingly set, and shows the hard conditions in which war is waged and its lack of glory. It ends straightforwardly with the declaration made after the death of Giovanni de'Medici by the commanders of the armies in Europe of not using again fire weapons because of their cruelty.

In 1865, a troop of Confederate soldiers led by Major Matt Stewart attack the wagon of gold escorted by Union cavalry and the soldiers are killed. The only wounded survivor tells that the war ended one month ago, and the group decides to take the gold and meet their liaison that knew that the war ended but did not inform the troop. The harsh Rolph Bainter kills the greedy man and the soldiers flee in his wagon driven by Major Stewart. When they meet a posse chasing them, Stewart gives wrong information to misguide the group; however, they have an accident with the wagon and lose the horses. They decide to stop a stagecoach and force the driver to transport them, but the posse returns and they are trapped in the station with the passenger. They realize that the men are not deputies and have no intention to bring them to justice but take the stolen gold.

Some time in the future, East and West have stopped maintaining standing armies and nuclear weapons. Instead, to settle their differences they pit different teams of crack combat specialists against each other.

A troop of British soldiers are out in the jungle to record jungle noises and troop noises in the jungle so that the recordings can be played back by other troops to divert the enemy to their whereabouts. As they progress to what they think is closer to the base camp they find themselves farther and farther from radio range until the only channel they can get clearly is that of a Japanese broadcast. They now realize they are probably only 10 to 15 miles from a Japanese camp! The tension is added to by rowdy and openly admitted "non-hero" Private Bamforth who has nothing good to say about anyone and especially Corporal Johnstone (who holds an equal dislike for Bamforth). When a Japanese soldier is taken as their prisoner, the true colours of each man comes to the surface
