시놉시스
Claire Adams as a girl forced to marry the man she suspects killed her father. When she refuses, she is virtually kept a prisoner along with kid-brother Frankie Lee until a handsome stranger (Jack Conway) rescues them.
유태인들에게서 전설로 전해져 내려오는 살아있는 인형 '골렘'을 소재로 한 영화로, 동일한 영화 중에서도 가장 뛰어난 수작으로 손꼽힌다. 각본과 감독, 주연을 한 파울 베게너는 1914년에 만들어진 에서도 주연을 맡은 바 있다. 영화 속 유대인 마을은 놀랍게도 스튜디오에 지어진 거대한 세트이다.

The Flicker Alley DVD "Georges Méliès: Encore New Discoveries (1896-1911)" misidentified a partial hand-colored print of the 1906 film "Alchimiste Parafaragaramus ou La cornue infernale" (The Mysterious Retort) as this film, "L'hallucination de l'alchimiste" (An Hallucinated Alchemist) from 1897, which continues to be considered a lost film.
