Set in the beautiful high Pyrenees in south-west France, Damien lives with his mother Marianne, a doctor, while his father, a pilot, is on a tour of duty abroad with the French military. At school, Damien is bullied by Thomas, who lives in the farming community up in the mountains. The boys find themselves living together when Marianne invites Thomas to come and stay with them while his mother is ill in hospital. Damien must learn to live with the boy who terrorised him.

인종, 성별, 성정체성에 대한 편견으로 뭉친 고집 센 아버지가 있다. 동성애자인 아들은 시골 농장에 홀로 살던 그를 집으로 모셔 오지만 감당하기 쉽지 않다. 지독한 차별주의자인 아버지는 치매 증상까지 있어 번번이 주위 사람들을 당황시킨다. 아들이 남자와 결혼해서 살고 있지만 아들의 결혼을 인정하지 않고, 흑인이나 여성에 대한 태도도 개선의 여지가 없다. 영화는 아버지의 과거를 보여주는 플래시백을 통해 이 남자의 젊은 시절을 구원했던 여자인 어머니의 존재를 보여준다. 그들의 사랑 역시 오래가지 못한다. 어머니도 이 남자의 비뚤어진 마음을 바로잡는데 실패한다. 마주치고 싶지 않은 불쾌한 노인의 삶을 들여다보면서 그도 구원받을 기회가 있었다는 사실을 안타까워하는 영화.

Ned is in the throes of a mid-life crisis. His work as a writer on an outrageous, semi-pornographic TV show is less than satisfying. His fifteen year old son has just told him he is gay and his eleven year old is afraid of, well pretty much everything. When his wife, Jeannie, moves her sick and embittered father from Detroit into their home in NY, it puts added stress on an already strained marriage. And when a sexy female co-worker puts the moves on Ned, the temptation sends him spiraling.

고3 아들 수현을 키우며 남편과 떨어져 사는 미경. 수현은 엄마에게 그리 살가운 편은 아니지만 착한 아들이다. 어느 날 수현은 어려움을 겪고 있는 친구 용준을 데리고 와 함께 지내게 된다. 용준은 말수가 적고 어두운 표정의 청년이다. 몇 년 후, 군에서 제대한 수현은 용준과 함께 떠난 여행길에서 사고를 당해 중태에 빠진다. 식물인간이 된 아들 수현의 투병생활을 곁에서 지키는 미경은 혼자만 멀쩡히 돌아 온 용준이 원망스럽기만 하다. 그리고, 수현과 용준이 서로 사랑하는 사이였다는 것을 뒤늦게 알게 된 미경은 용준 몰래 아들 수현과 함꼐 자취를 감춘다. 홀로 남은 용준은 수현과 미경을 찾아헤맨다.
