외진 시골 마을에 이웃한 두 농가가 있다. 경제적으로도 사회적으로도 이들의 삶은 녹록하지 않다. 천연가스 채굴 회사가 이들을 찾아와 땅을 빌려 달라고 하면서, 두 농가 사이의 관계는 껄끄러워진다. 결국 한쪽 집이 제안을 받아들여 채굴이 시작되는데, 이때 땅밑에서 오랫동안 잠들어 있던 끔찍한 무언가가 튀어나온다.

Drawn again and again to the motel room where his daughter was last seen, Jon (Ben Siegler) can't see what the film's viewers can: what went down in that room before and after the girl disappeared.
