The plotline is secondary; the film's main purpose was to emulate the methods of such professional "de-bunkers" as Mrs. Harry Houdini by exposing the various tricks of the spiritualist's trade.

"Rodeo" Bill is a hard-nosed, fun-loving cowboy who likes a lot of action and will go out of his way to create some if things are going too dull to suit him. He attends a circus/wild west show and stirs up some trouble with both the locals and the troupers but, after seeing Ruth Henson, the daughter of the show's operator/owner, he decides to join up and travel with the circus. He also manges to take care of some trouble not of his doing.

Jack Duffy had two skills that helped make him the lead in a nice series of short comedies in the 1920s: the usual ability to take one of the bone-breaking falls that slapstick called for and the ability to make himself up as an old coot, which gave him a nice character and made the pratfalls more impressive. In this one he manages to get himself tangled up coming down the pole at the fire station -- very amusing.

The story involves various misunderstandings and entanglements that occur between two married couples, the Browns (Glenn Tryon & Vivien Oakland) and the Dazzles (Tyler Brooke & Anita Garvin). The two couples have apartments across the hall from one another, and all four plan to attend a costume ball together. But after each husband expresses unhappiness with his wife's costume the women angrily refuse to go to the party. The two husbands decide to go "stag" and pick up dates, but when Mrs. Brown changes her mind about attending, and Mr. Dazzle and Mr. Brown switch costumes, mix-ups result.

The last of the impetuous Varicks, Lady Helen Haden is married to Sir Bruce Haden, a brute who treats her shamefully. Sir Bruce gains possession of a love letter written to Ned by Lady Helen and divorces her. Ned goes to Africa, and Lady Helen comes to the United States, where she encounters Rudolph Solomon, an art collector who wants her to become his mistress. The noblewoman at first refuses, but when her money runs out, she agrees to the proposal and attends a party at his home. Ned, who has learned of the divorce, comes looking for Helen and meets her at Solomon's party. Lady Helen is so humiliated and ashamed that she rushes from the house and throws herself in front of an automobile.

A wannabe film star journeys to Hollywood, but soon finds his dreams do not pan out.

Therese Duverne (Viola Dana) is bored with her even-tempered husband, Edmond (Adolphe Menjou). Isabelle Fevre (Gale Henry) suggests that Edmond go to the bicycle races and stay out all night. Then she takes Therese there and introduces her to manly Petit Mathieu, one of the racers (Maurice B. Flynn). Since he has just quarreled with his sweetheart, Lea (Jetta Goudal), he is glad to have Therese's attention and offers to run away with her after he wins the six-day race. Lea, meanwhile, is spending her time with Edmond. Therese eventually decides she doesn't care for brutes like Mathieu, and Edmond gains a temper and wins his wife back. Lea and Mathieu are reunited, while Isabelle goes back to helping her own alcoholic sweetheart, Igor (Raymond Griffith), break into the movies.

Gladys falls for a prizefighter who has invited his entire hometown to watch his fight in New York City. However, he gets crazy jealous when he sees Gladys at the fight sitting next to Jimmy. After the bout is over, he sets out for the hotel to teach Jimmy a lesson.

The Wild Woman is a silent comedy

Cook Gale Henry and butler Milton Sims are arguing in the kitchen about who would make the best detective, until the lady of the house comes in to see about the delay in dinner and fires them both. Freed from their domestic duties, they are at liberty to become detectives.

It was all because John was the image of Frank, the health inspector. John lost his purse and Frank found it. Then he went to the former's house and Matilda thought her hubby was crazy because he did not recognize her. Frank had forgotten his badge, and so could not prove his identity, and was taken to the insane asylum. But Bess discovered that Frank left his badge and went to the first house on his list to give it to him. At the corner she met John looking for the wallet. He liked her and said that he would take her to lunch. When he arrived home he thought that Matilda was crazy, and sent to the asylum for help.

Gale Henry, at that time famous as big-nosed, lugubrious-faced purveyor of silent screen slapstick. Here as a prominent villager too interested writing a play to be bothered with lovers. When a wandering director arrives in town, learns of her play and agrees to produce it for her, with the author in the leading role, she is delighted. But the play proves a frost.

The widow lives in a houseboat near one of the beaches. Charley is her devoted lover, but his bashfulness prevents him from proposing. She has a daughter, Lilly, who is visiting in a nearby town. She accepts Heinie subject to her mother's approval. The mother cannot see it and wires her daughter that she cannot marry the young man unless he shows her $5,000. She orders the girl home. Heinie says that he has a brother living near the widow's houseboat and that he will accompany Lilly home so as to be on the ground. Heinie and Charley are very much alike, in fact, the only difference between the brothers is in the way in which they wear their mustaches.

The Governor, after a series of thrilling experiences, thwarts the efforts of the politicians. The latter calls on Lady Baffles, who impersonates the Governor's wife and secures the executive's signature to the bill. Banker Shultz has not had a vacation for over thirty years. His doctor advises a rest or a breakdown will soon result. But it is impossible for Shultz to leave the affairs of the bank a moment. At last he hits on a great scheme. That of getting his friend, Detective Duck, to impersonate him.

First episode in the Lady Baffles and Detective Duck one-reel comedy series. The city is being terrorized by a mysterious female Raffles. At last, in desperation, the chief of police sends for his friend, the famous sleuth, Detective Duck. While these two are sitting in conference, Raffles, in her search for loot, enters the home of Mrs. Gotta Millun. Raffles' eyes sparkle as she takes in with delight the rich Oriental knick-knacks and furnishings. Mrs. Millun is a connoisseur. Raffles hides under a table when Mrs. Millun comes in. Mrs. Millun has just received a gift from her brother in far-off India. It is a jewel case containing eight beautiful and rare pearls as large as hen eggs. In a note accompanying them her brother explains that the jewels were part of the loot of the Britishers when they raided Oski Wow Wow, and that they were taken from a famous Indian Princess who had sworn eternal vengeance on all who thereafter possessed them.

When a small traveling theatrical troupe stages a production in town, Ike is suddenly "bitten" by the acting bug and determines to become a famous actor.

Ika marries a widow, figuring he's set for life. Unfortunately for him, the first thing she does is put him to work. Ike hatches a scheme with his doctor to fake illness to get out of work, but his new wife has planned for that, too.

John de Rockingchair, oil magnate, is a suitor for the hand of Louise. The young lady, however, has long since decided that she will not marry any man who has money. Aside from this she loves Universal Ike.
