히가시노 게이고의 원작을 바탕으로 드라마화 되었던 '신참자'의 극장판. 어느 밤, 니혼바시에서 칼에 찔려 비틀거리는 한 남자가 발견되고, 이를 둘러싼 수사가 벌어진다. 용의자로 지목된 다른 사람은 원인을 알수 없는 도주중에 트럭에 치여 의식불명 상태지만, 이미 경시청 상부에서는 그의 범죄로 확정해가고 있었다. 사건의 주변 인물들을 탐문하는 니혼바시 경찰 '카가(아베 히로시 분)'형사와 경시청 '마츠미야(미조바타 준페이 분)'형사. 그들은 사건의 해결 뿐 아니라, 사건에 연루된 인물들의 삶을 회복시키는 형사로서의 역할을 믿고 있다.

An ordinary salary man, Junosuke, goes in search of his lover, Miharu, who disappeared one night when she handed him the key to her room, and promised to be back in five minutes. She had only gone out to buy apples at the nearby convenience store, because Junosuke has one for breakfast every morning. Slightly drunk from the cocktail he had had earlier, Junosuke falls asleep, and wakes up the next morning to find that Miharu had never returned.

Taihei's difficult days are just beginning. His girlfriend Natsuko has a sister called Kanoko who falls victim to a a disease that has afflicted women of the family for generations, causing a sudden eruption of hair across her body. When she turns into a wolf and escapes into the woods, Taihei and Natsuko come after her and stumble across an unidentified body. The police claim the wolf is to blame. This begins a frantic chase where the myth of the werewolf and Japanese folklore blend together.
