'I want to make a film about women' gazes in to a creative communal kitchen and watches these women transform it into a workshop, then a stage set, then a film, all the while juggling noisy men and the wolves of history. It imagines what the revolutionary women artists of the 1920s said, what they did, and what they might have created had it not been for Stalin's suppression.

Jen Swan expected to continue to care for her grandchildren but DOCS deemed her unsuitable, a shock not just to her but to her sister, Deb, who was, at the time, a DOCS worker. The rate of Indigenous child removal has actually increased since Prime Minister Kevin Rudd delivered the apology to the ‘stolen generations’ in 2008. These four grandmothers find each other and start a national movement to place extended families as a key solution to the rising number of Aboriginal children in out-of-home care. (2013년 제18회 부산국제영화제) 우리는 누구나 저주를 받은 듯한 피해망상이나 낯선 곳으로 던져졌을 때의 두려움을 느껴보았을 것이다. 호주 출신의 킴 모돈트 감독은 이러한 보편적 주제를 자기만의 환상이 아니라 매일 현실로 겪고 있는 북부 라오스의 한 소년에게 대입시킨다. 그 지역의 미신에 따르면 알로는 쌍둥이 형제가 사산되었을 때 함께 죽임을 당했어야 했다. 하지만 아이는 운 좋게 살아남아 기운차게 자랐다. 소년 역을 맡은 어린 배우는 다양한 감정을 표현하며 너무나 훌륭한 연기를 펼치는데, 이는 일반적인 비전문 배우들보다 훨씬 훌륭한 수준이다. 인생의 교훈은 쓰지만, 알로는 터지지 않은 폭탄이나 제임스 브라운의 댄스 동작을 보면서 서구 제국주의에도 생각지 않은 기쁨이 있다는 것을 알게 된다. 하지만 이 영화는 복종의 가치에 대한 불만 가득한 판타지가 아니다. 이 영화는 바로 그 터지지 않은 폭탄과 정글 원주민들을 개발이라는 미명하에 내쫓아 이득을 취하는 사악한 백인들 등, 제국주의의 위험 역시 동등하게 다루고 있다.
