군마현 다카사키시, 19세 히데는 그럭저럭 대학생활을 보내면서 아르바이트를 하던 중 퉁명 스럽기는 하나 솔직한 오데코에게 갑자기 동정을 빼앗기고는 푹 빠지고 만다. 그러나 오데코는 느닷없이 결혼을 하기로 했다며 일방적으로 히데를 버린다. 히데는 당혹스러운 와중에도 졸업과 취업,새로운 사랑도 하지만 왠지 허무함에 시달린다. 그리고 어느새 알코올에 의존해 일상생활에 지장을 줄 정도가 되고 결국은 음주운전으로 교통사고를 일으킨다. 그 후로 히데는 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 알코올 의존증에서 벗어나려 노력하며 간신히 제자리를 찾으려 하고 있었다. 그 무렵 오데코도 비참한 운명 속에서도 열심히 살아가고 있었다. 그 후 10년 후... 두 사람은 재회한다. 잊고 싶어도 잊을 수가 없었던 두 사람의 10년에 걸친 순애보가 펼쳐진다.

Kiri no Hi (霧の火) is a Japanese television drama which originally aired on Nippon Television (NTV) on August 25, 2008. The story takes place in Maoka City, Karafuto, Japan (Currently Kholmsk, Sakhalin, Russian Federation) during the final year of the Pacific War. Nine telephone operators in Maoka took their own lives by taking potassium cyanide when the Soviet Union invaded the city on August 20, 1945.
