파리의 변두리에서 살고 있는 소년 질과 소녀 크리스틴. 그들의 가족은 무능하고 가족에게 전혀 살갑지가 않다. 그들은 목적없이 하루하루를 살고 있을 뿐이다. 어느 날, 질과 크리스틴은 수퍼마켓에서 음반을 훔치다가 붙잡힌다. 질은 풀려나지만 크리스틴은 부모님의 회피에 의해 위탁가정에 들어가게 된다. 크리스틴을 찾아온 질과 함께 도망친 두 사람은 청소년들이 모여사는 집에 들어간다. 그곳에서 더 남쪽으로 도망가기로 결심한다.
