한때 유능한 경찰관이었던 코델(Cordell)이 부두에서 익사한 것으로 발표되자 동료 경찰들은 그의 죽음에 강한 의구심을 품는다. 한편 미모의 여자들만을 노리는 살인광이 뉴욕 거리를 활보하고 연이어 경찰관들이 처참히 살해된다. 경찰은 이 모든 사거을 정신병적 살인마의 범행으로 바라표하지만 목격자들은 얼굴이 흉악한 상처로 짓이겨진 거구의 경찰관을 범인으로 지목한다. 그는 다름 아닌 코델인 것이다. 부패한 경찰 고위간부들과 범죄 집단의 농간으로 억울하게 죽어간 코델이 다시 살아 돌아온 것이다. 오직 정의와 복수를 위해서.

Blue-collar worker Vince stumbles into a dance school, where he quickly becomes entranced by the music. Miss McKenzie, the school's manager and former owner, is about to throw him out on his ear when Moon, the school's rebellious new jazz instructor, vouches for him. Although the school's new owner has insisted on bringing in Moon as a teacher, Miss McKenzie absolutely hates him and the influence of his mordern music, and will stop at nothing to see him (and Vince) thrown out for good.

1988년에 진 폴 오를렛 감독이 러브 크래프트 원작을 각색하여 영화로 만든 작품. 내용은 1800년대 때 네크로노미콘을 연구하던 조슈아 윈쓰롭의 아내가 형용할 수 없는 여자 괴물 알라이자를 낳고 죽은 이후 나무 감옥에 유폐시켰지만, 세월이 지나면서 봉인의 효력이 약화되어 결국 풀려난 알라이자에 의해 죽음을 맞이하고 그 이후 집은 크래프트 일행에 의해 폐쇄되고 수백년이 흐른 뒤 현대에 이르러 다시 부활하면서 벌어지는 이야기
