인적이 드문 사막 부근의 도로, 아이와 단어 게임을 하며 운전을 하던 여자는 앞에 놓인 사슴을 보지 못하고 사고를 낸다. 앞유리를 빨갛게 덮은 피, 피를 흘리며 죽어가는 사슴. 그리고 그 옆을 지나가는 한대의 차. 갑작스러운 사고로 문을 여는 영화 는 슬래셔공포영화의 대표작 에서 모티브를 따온 작품이다. 사막으로 여행을 떠난 그레첸(티나 일만), 쿠키(에리엘 케벨), 넬슨(데렉 리처드슨), 잭(데본 구머살), 트립(스콧 와이트) 등 5명의 학생들은 호텔에 흐르는 이상한 기류에 불안해한다. 휴대폰 전파와 라디오 주파수는 잡히지 않고, 땅은 갑자기 흔들린다. 그리고 등장하는 정체불명의 살인자. 순간이동도 가능한 이 살인자는 회전되는 커터칼을 팔에 장착한 채 5명의 학생들을 위협한다. 팔이 잘려나가고, 피가 터져나오며, 사람이 하나둘 죽어나간다. 공포 장르영화의 공식을 그대로 따라가는 이 영화의 묘미는 탄탄한 드라마와 솔직한 연출에 있다. 화장실과 트럭에서의 살인장면은 쾌감을 주고, 영화 서두의 차 사고와 마지막 반전은 뫼비우스 띠처럼 묘하게 연결된다. 과감하고, 신선하며, 뒤끝이 없는 깔끔한 공포영화.
