Natalya Fyodorovna Merkulova (Russian: Ната́лья Фёдоровна Мерку́лова; born 19 September, 1979; Buzuluk, Orenburg Oblast) is a Russian filmmaker, director, screenwriter, producer and creator. Since 2013, she has been working in duo with her husband filmmaker Alexey Chupov (b. 1973).
She is most famous for "Intimate Parts" (2013, codirected with Aleksey Chupov) that was a part of Kinotavr Film Festival and won an award for the best debut, and "The Man Who Surprised Everyone" (2018, codirected with Aleksey Chupov) that was a members for the Horizons (Orizzonti) section of 75th Venice International Film Festival. Her 2021 film "Captain Volkonogov Escaped" (codirected with Aleksey Chupov) was selected for the main competition at the 78th Venice International Film Festival.

포옹한 부부를 따뜻한 톤으로 화면 가득 담아내는 첫 시퀀스는 강렬한 흡입력을 가진다. 시베리아 작은 마을, 정직하고 성실한 패밀리맨 이고르는 이웃에게서 존경받는 인물이다. 어느 날 그에게 삶이 두 달밖에 남지 않았다는 사형선고가 내린다. 병원도 샤머니즘 민간요법도 그를 살릴 수 없다. 가족을 두고 죽을 수 없는 그는 극단적 결심을 하게 된다. 는 성별을 바꾸면 죽음을 피할 수 있다는 시베리아의 우화에서 모티브를 얻은 영화이다. 조용한 시골 마을에서 파란을 일으킬 만한 결심을 한 이후, 이고르는 침묵한다. 그의 심리적 압박감과 고립감은 가족과 단절하고 숨어들어 간 헛간과 숲속 오두막이라는 공간에서 극대화된다. 진한 검은 색조의 영상은 어둠 속에 잠긴 그의 고독감을 세련되게 보여준다. 상대에 대한 소중함이 배어 나오는 첫 장면은 영화 전체의 메시지를 보여주며, 후반에 그의 아내가 보여주는 포용과 사랑은 관객에게 진한 여운과 잔상을 남길 것이다. 배우들의 깊이 있는 연기와 독특한 소재, 뛰어난 영상미가 돋보이는 수작. Soon after Gogol's death, Binh names him guilty for the deaths of the Cossacks and the young women at the hands of the Dark Horseman, since he was the one who ordered them to be hidden in the barn. Bomgart is unable to perform a post-mortem analysis on the Gogol's body, while Vakula's daughter Vasilina (who secretly has magic abilities) proclaims denial about Gogol's demise.

It doesn't bother Yana at all that at thirty-eight she doesn't have a husband or children. Having achieved popularity, Yana confidently goes forward, not wanting to compromise her own principles.
But suddenly, clouds are gathering over Yana's well-being, and in order to strengthen her almost lost position, she agrees to an unthinkable step, deciding to adopt a child. Yana takes her from the orphanage a little gypsy by the name of Yanko. That's just Yana does not even suspect what will turn out for her such a PR move.
