멕시코 마약 카르텔을 위해 일하는 소년 ‘아르눌포 (크리스티안 페러)’는 조직으로부터 인정받고 성공하는 것이 가장 큰 희망이다. 조직은 어린 소년에 대한 국경의 감시가 소홀하다는 것을 노리고 아르눌포에게 미국에서 무기를 구매해 멕시코로 배송하는 임무를 맡긴다. 아르눌포는 수 차례 무기를 멕시코로 빼돌리는 것에 성공하자 이에 고무되어 친구 ‘카슨’과 함께 더 많은 무기를 구매하는데 혈안이 된다. 하지만 이와 관련된 첩보를 입수한 ATF (미국 주류_담배_화기단속국) 요원 ‘행크 (팀 로스)’가 이들을 수사하기 시작한다. 그러던 어느 날, 아르눌포에 대한 증거를 수집한 행크는 무기불법유통 혐의로 그를 현장에서 체포하려는 과정에서 도리어 아르눌포에게 인질로 붙잡히게 되는데...
