Moe, Rose and Lee Baumler are members of an upper class family who find the world completely changed when they lose everything in the stock market crash of 1929. Lee, a college-age young man, who now faces no possibility of entering college, decides to go on the road to see what is happening to the rest of the country.

Led by the indomitable Ma Joad, who is determined to keep the family together at any cost, and by the volatile young Tom Joad, an ex-convict who grows increasingly impatient with the intolerance and exploitation that they encounter on their trek, the Joads must deal with death and terrible deprivation before reaching their destination—where their waning hopes are dealt a final blow by the stark realities of the Great Depression.

강도에 의해 아들을 잃은 메이컨과 사라 부부는 그 충격에서 벗어나지 못하고, 결국 사라의 일방적인 별거 통보에 메이컨은 말없이 이를 수용한다. 삶의 의욕을 잃고 우울한 나날을 보내던 여행전문 기고가 메이컨은 자신이 기르고 있던 애완견 때문에 개조련사 뮤리엘을 알게 된다. 다소 천박한 듯하지만 솔직한 성격의 뮤리엘은 메이컨에게 애정을 적극적으로 표시한다. 결국 메이컨은 그런 그녀를 통해 새로운 삶의 의미를 깨닫게 된다. 한편 메이컨은 뮤리엘과의 재혼을 고려하지만, 주위에서는 두 사람의 결합을 반대한다. 그러던 어느 날 사라가 다시 재결합을 제의해 오고, 메이컨은 사라의 제의를 받아들인다. 하지만, 그런 메이컨에게 뮤리엘은 여전히 적극적인 행동을 취하는데...
The Professor
The Party Animal is a documentary-style comedy about a sex-starved man, Pondo Sinatra, a 26-year-old college student whom everyone agrees is doomed to die a virgin. Desperate to break what seems to be a cosmic curse, he tries ever more bizarre schemes to seduce one the sexy, scantily-clad women who seem to be everywhere, taunting him and enjoying his misery. Despite his best efforts, however, he is rejected everywhere, even at the local cathouse. When Pondo threatens to kill himself, Studley, his ladykilling best friend, tries to help him in his quest to "get him a little", as does Studley's mentor, a wise old janitor named Elbow.
Rural Ticket Agent
Newly-widowed Mabel Lederer, who has psychic and mediumistic abilities, sells her house and belongings, changes her name, and moves to a new town. There she rents a room in a boarding house and holds a seance with the other tenants, with comical results.
