Although young and beautiful, schoolteacher Anne Gladden fears a dull future. She finally decides to take a walk on the wild side, splurging on some fashionable new clothes and setting off to find adventure. Her new confidence inspires her to flirt with complete strangers. When a gangster pays unwanted attention to her, she ditches him and flees in his car, unaware that there's a corpse in the trunk. Determined to recover his stolen vehicle and its incriminating cargo the thug begins a desperate search. The oblivious Anne, comes to the aid of a handsome young man stranded alongside the road. Romance blooms, but after the shocking discovery of a body in the trunk, the duo decide they have to return the car. The bickering lovebirds head back to the city, trailed by both the angry gangster and the cops, who suspect the young couple of murder.

Working stiff Tom Tupper is stopped by a 'man on the spot' reporter during his daily commute. Asked for his opinion on male/female relations, Tom tells the radio audience that he thinks men could do a better job running the household than women. When he arrives home, his infuriated wife Margaret proposes that her husband put his money where his mouth is. The couple switch roles, with Margaret going to the office and Tom cooking and cleaning. While Margaret becomes a successful entrepreneur, the man of the house comes dangerously close to having a nervous breakdown. Overwhelmed by a woman's work, Tom begs Margaret to go back to the way things were, but his now-independent wife isn't interested.

막스 브라더스의 첫 장편영화. 영화는 플로리다에서 호텔을 경영하는 미스터 해머(그루초 막스)가 경영난에 직면하자 이를 타계하기 위한 계략을 꾸미는 과정을 마치 뮤지컬을 보듯 흥겨운 노래와 춤으로 보여준다. 영화로 만들어지기 이전 이미 동명의 뮤지컬 작품을 약 18개월 동안 상연하며 인기를 누렸고, 브로드웨이 입성 후 큰 성공을 거두었다. 초기 유성영화 작품 중 하나인 이 작품은 자세히 보면 당시 열악한 제작 환경을 엿볼 수 있다. 미스터 해머가 플로리다 부동산 지도를 보여 주는 장면에서 사운드를 녹음하는 음향 장비의 과도한 작동을 막기 위해 지도를 일부러 물에 적셔 둔 장면이 눈에 띈다. 막스 형제의 작품은 훗날 많은 영화 작품과 문화계에 영향을 미쳤다. 특히 테리 길리엄은 자신의 영화에 막스 형제의 작품을 여러 차례 인용했는데, 에서는 온 가족이 을 보는 장면을 삽입해 눈길을 끌었다.
