Farm life in the Yorkshire Dales isn't easy at the best of times, but things are exceptionally tough for Tom and Sue. Their eight-year-old son has leukaemia, and the doctors aren't making headway. Meanwhile, Catherine, ten, feels lonely and neglected; befriending Uma, the first Hindu at the village school, she takes her to the Moors. Something strange happens, which Catherine interprets as a vision of the Virgin Mary, and a sign her brother will be all right.

Based on a true story, set in the late 19th century: Lord Tichborne, the ninth richest nobleman in England, disappears after a South American shipwreck. Some years later his erudite Afro-English valet, Bogle, is sent to investigate rumors that Tichborne survived and settled in Australia. An alcoholic ruffian answer's Bogle's inquiries claiming to be the lost heir. Bogle suspects fraud, but conspires with the claimant to split the inheritance should the latter succesfully pass himself off to friends, family and the courts. As the claimant returns to England to continue his charade, enough people confirm his identity to make both the claimant and Bogle believe that he just might be the rightful heir after all.

철광 산업이 쇠퇴 일로를 달리게 되면서 실업자가 된 가즈(로버트 칼라일)는 어느날 우연히 여자들만 입장할 수 있는 남자 나체쇼가 성황을 이루는 것을 보고 스트립쇼를 해서 돈을 벌기로 마음 먹는다. 가즈는 친구 데이브와 함께 사교춤 선생인 제럴드를 설득해 멤버로 끌어들이고 체리와 호스는 오디션으로 뽑고, 일자리를 구하지 못해 자살기도를 했던 룸퍼스까지 멤버가 된다. 이들은 폐허가 된 철공소 창고에서 경찰 복장으로 스트립쇼를 연습하다 신고를 받고 달려온 경찰에게 연행됨으로써 졸지에 유명인사가 되어버린다. 많은 우여곡절이 연습 중에 생겨나고 포기하려는 사람도 생겨났지만, 결국은 남자 나체쇼를 하는 바의 운영주인 알란의 제의로 이들은 스트립쇼를 하게 되고, 관중들의 환호를 받는다. 이들은 스트립쇼를 통해 무기력하고 절망적이었던 삶에서 탈출할 수 있는 정신적 힘을 얻은 것이다.
