Sean lives a harsh but successful life as a criminal in Los Angeles's rough suburbs. He has, in spite of a chaotic and violent childhood, created some order in his life. As long as order is maintained, he - along with his partner in crime Peter - can ensure that his criminal life does not fall apart. But like in any Greek tragedy, things are doomed to go wrong when he one day falls in love with the waitress Lilly. Sean thinks he can bring order to her life too, but the all-consuming heroin addiction can not be tamed so easily.

When the bodies of her mother and brother were found in the burned home of family friend James DiMaggio later that day, an AMBER Alert was issued, and a frantic multi-state manhunt for Hannah began. For a week she was kept prisoner by the increasingly unstable DiMaggio as they made their way across the state. One week later, the two were found in Idaho and DiMaggio was killed in a shootout with FBI agents, leaving Hannah as the sole survivor. As the dust settled, questions began to emerge about the nature of the relationship between Hannah and her kidnapper...and what really happened?

잭은 친구인 쿠엔틴, 쿠엔틴의 동생 조와 함께 캠핑을 즐긴다. 맥주를 마시던 중, 시계가 13시 13분으로 맞춰져 있는 것을 발견한다. 누군가의 장난인 줄 알았지만 시계나 온도계의 숫자가 13, 13으로 바뀌는 일이 계속해서 발생한다. 일행은 잭의 전처와 딸 켄드라가 살고 있는 집을 방문하는데 전처가 자살을 시도하자 잭은 앰뷸런스를 불러 함께 병원으로 간다. 그러나 기이한 일들은 병원에서도 계속된다. 사람들이 모두 폭력적으로 변해 서로 싸우고 죽이면서 잭도 공격의 대상이 된다. 이때 위험에 빠진 잭을 구해주는 캔디스. 잭과 캔디스는 윤년에 태어났다는 공통점이 있다. 두 사람은 가까스로 병원을 빠져나와 잭의 집으로 가지만 딸 켄드라와 잭은 친구들은 모두 감염되어 극심한 폭력성을 보이며 이들을 공격한다. 가족과 친구를 모두 잃은 잭과 캔디스는 슬픔과 고통 속에서 다른 도시를 찾아 떠난다.
