The small town of Kalyazin on the banks of the Volga is famous for its bell tower rising right out of the water. More than half a century ago, during the construction of the Uglich hydroelectric power station, half of the city was flooded. Quiet sleepy streets that go straight into the river make this place really special. Like a mermaid who has climbed ashore, Kalyazin anxiously breathes the half-heartedness of his earthly fate. But every day bread is baked, children are born, women bend over sewing machines, men work behind the machines, asserting the desperate struggle of life where it seems that everything is meaningless and fleeting. Like a river along which large elegant steamboats sail past the bell tower, saying that somewhere there is a completely different life.

Uncle Sasha lives on an island in a “dead” village, surrounded by water. He dreams of the restoration of the monarchy and reviving the true wisdom of the Russian way of life, forgotten and trampled by modernisation and European influence. Every spring he builds a bridge, and every winter it is destroyed by ice. Uncle Sasha is now building his thirteenth bridge.

“To settle for the martyrdom and death for faith, a man must feel the reality of God being and the reality of the other world.” The film is about the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia who martyred for Orthodox faith in the middle of the 20th century.

Much has been said about the Great Patriotic War (World War II), but more has not been said. This film shows the war with the eyes of the German soldiers. It is the story of an error of fatal choice that has been the cause of the most cruel war in the history of humanity.

The morning after however it soon becomes clear that Alexander ended up in the wrong supermarket with the wrong Gulya. The right Gulya, who is actually from Tashkent, cannot keep the revelation to herself on learning of her destiny, and wastes no time in breaking the story to the media. In spring, as soon as the ice descends from the Siberian rivers, Plavpoliklinika goes on a semi-annual route. Doctors are taking medical care to remote Russian villages. Ahead of six months of testing the climate and living conditions, separation from the family and meeting people from the outback.

Elza lives in a small town in the Republic of Kalmykia on the Caspian Sea. Another year comes to an end, it’s cold and the steppe is covered in a thin layer of snow. When her husband, who makes a living from illegal fishing, asks her one night what she did during the day, she lies. She wasn’t at her mother’s, but at the bus stop. She thought of leaving – to find out what it might be to escape the infinite expanse of her dreary small world. But she didn’t dare; instead she stays and withdraws into herself, unconcerned by who might see. One day, her husband doesn’t return from a dangerous boat trip. It is said that a fisherman only returns if he has a woman waiting for him and that seagulls are the souls of the missing. At the start of a somewhat unplanned pregnancy, widowed and alone, Elza wanders ever further through the city, plotting a path between tradition and the contemporary until she’s no longer on familiar ground.

The film tells about the founding of the city of Koktebel a real secret adviser Eduard Jung, who in 1890 left the service in Moscow and moved to the arid lands of the future Koktebel. Maximilian Voloshin in 1903 in Koktebel began to build his own house, which later became the center of the spiritual life of Russia.

The film intertwines the intrigues at the court of Peter III and the mysterious murders of our days that happened on the territory of the Oranienbaum Museum-Reserve. At one time, the estate was donated to Menshikov and named Oranienbaum in honor of an orange tree. According to legend, Peter I came across a greenhouse with a wonderful "orange tree" in a tub on the territory of the estate and laughed after reading the sign Oranienbaum. The estate inherited later by Peter III was completed, and under Catherine the Great a Chinese palace of amazing beauty appeared in it.

Shurochka, the film’s hero, spends her life walking from one village to another in order to weigh tractors. Yet, this makes just one part of her existence. She dances to Utiosov’s songs, she smiles to the pictures of old Soviet actresses and shows a wonderful taste for life amidst the lonely provincial disorderliness.
