먼 미래. 미증유의 재해를 피해 땅속으로 파고 들어간 인간들은 수백 년 동안 지하에서 사는 동안 지상이라는 곳이 존재한다는 사실 자체를 잊어버리고 말았다. 그런 중 한 곳에 두 남자가 있었다. 하나는 내성적인 소년 시몬, 또 하나는 지상이 있는 것을 믿어 의심치 않는 근성 청년 카미나. 어느 날 지하마을의 천정이 무너져 내렸을 때, 두 남자의 운명은 크게 요동치기 시작한다! 무너진 천정에서 떨어져 내려온 것은 거대한 얼굴을 가진 로봇 간멘과 초전도 라이플을 가진 소녀 요코, 그리고 눈부시게 쏟아져 내리는 햇빛이었다. 그리고 지상으로 뛰쳐 올라온 시몬, 카미나, 요코의 앞에는 전대미문의 모험이 펼쳐진다.

고렘의 마을을 지나가던 리나 일행은 날뛰는 고렘으로부터 라이어 아인버그라는 소녀를 구해주게된다. 그 소녀에게 거나하게 대접을 받을 요량으로 리나 일행이 그녀의 집에 도착했을 때 그녀의 아버지 가이아 아인버그와 오빠인 휴이 아인버그가 싸우고 있었다. 한참을 싸우던 그 둘은 각각 리나와 나가를 보고 그녀들을 모델로 하여 고렘을 만들어야겠다는 창작욕에 불타게 된다. 하지만 부자지간인 그들은 그만 마을을 둘러싼 두 왕가, 즉 로드 하이젠과 로드 그래니온에게 서로 매수를 당해 싸워야만 할 처지가 되고 만다. 리나와 나가를 모델로 하여 완성된 고렘을 이용한 싸움은 결국 리나와 나가의 싸움으로 이어지게 되는데...

Take the characters from a number of sci-fi based animes, a stage not unlike "Wacky Races," super deformed madness, and general insanity and what you get is Scramble Wars. While Scramble Wars does include characters from the original Bubblegum Crisis, Gall Force and Genesis Survivor Gaiarth, it also has a few other characters from other animes such as AD Police and Riding Bean.

1995년, 인간의 정신파를 전달할 수 있는 신물질 '아스테나이트'가 발견되어 수많은 분야에서 응용되기 시작한다. 그렇게 시간이 흘러 2019년. 어떤 집단이 고대의 갑옷을 부활시켜 주인공인 존에게 씌워 존이 거대 괴물로 변해서 거리를 파괴하기 시작한다.

니혼TV의 명물 엔터테인먼트 방송 “사랑은 지구를 구한다”에 삽입되기 위해서 만들어진 TV용 장편 애니메이션으로, 전체적으로 보면 초기의 손오공 작품과 선을 달리하는 멋을 보여주는데 이것은 역시 시대와 금전의 차이다. 전통성과 가벼운 재미를 보여주는 작품으로 영상부터 사운드까지 상당히 공을 들여 만든 작품이다.

Yōichi Kotabe was a character animator on the film, and used it as inspiration for the art direction of the video game The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2002). Tomm Moore, director of the Oscar-nominated films The Secret of Kells (2009), Song of the Sea (2014), and Wolfwalkers (2020), has identified the film as a major influence.

Two young aspiring adventurers, Sindbad and Ali, find an old sailor who has washed up on the shore.
