Tora-San returns to Shibamata just before his family leaves on a trip for Kyushu. Later, he encounters an old school chum and begins to have feeling for his artist sister.
In Part I we see the young would-be swordsman setting out to achieve greatness in war, achieving nothing because fighting on the losing side, & then beginning his long period of wandering & training, with the goal always in mind of his duel with Kojiro. Part II builds toward that great duel on Ganryu Island, with considerable focus on Musashi's planning & forethought as to how to gain an advantage.
It was five years ago when Minako spent a night with Sozo, younger brother of her ex-husband. She now lives in a local town with a rich old man who owns a dry goods store. Seijuro Fujihana, head master of the Fujihana dance school, is a proud and lonely artist. And because of his character, his group lacks the prosperity of others. He wishes his daughter Kasumi, gifted like himself, to take over and develop the Fujihana, but she wishes to marry Hiroshi, head of a jazz band which her father opposes. Kisaburo, Seijuro's No.1 disciple, wants to marry Kasumi and take over the Fujihana with the backing of the chairman of the supporters' association.
During the early days of the war a young student, Makito (Kazuo Funaki), falls in love with Yuko (Mayumi Ozora), the widow of a naval officer. She, however, is living with the memories of her husband and it is her younger sister, Yumiko (Nana Ozaki), who grows fond of the student. Then, one day, a young naval officer, Tadayuki (Ken Ogata), a friend of her late husband, comes to see the widow and she becomes attracted to him. Though Makito is inspired to study for the navy, he is much upset when he learns that Yuko and Tadayuki are to marry.

쇼치쿠 누벨바그의 또 다른 총아였던 요시다 기주의 데뷔작. 삶을 지루하고 무력하게 느끼는 청년들이 범죄행각을 통해 탈출구를 찾으려 한다는 내용. 당시 유행하던 태양족 영화의 분위기를 그대로 담고 있지만, 좀더 차갑고 날렵한 면이 돋보인다. 흔히 요시다 기주의 최초 걸작은 , 가장 진보적으로 실험한 작품은 이 꼽히는데, 이 영화에선 누벨바그에 대한 영향력을 한껏 자인하고 있다. 특히, 요시다 기주는 고다르의 의 마지막 장면을 영화의 엔딩에서 되풀이하며 일종의 헌사를 바친다. 은 이 시기 태양족 영화 중에서는 다소 차가운 쪽에 속하는 듯하다.

시노다 마사히로의 데뷔작으로 당시 폭발적인 인기를 얻고 있던 로큰롤 뮤직광들의 세계를 허무주의적인 시각에서 다룬 작품. 목표 없이 방황하는 젊은이들의 삶을 통해 당시 사회의 모순을 감각적이고 예리한 시선으로 고발하는 한편, 방향성을 잃은 현대일본의 방황과 소외, 염세주의 등 시노다 마사히로가 이후 계속해서 천착하게 되는 모더니즘적인 테마가 잘 드러나 있다.

비둘기를 파는 소년을 충격적으로 묘사한 오시마 나기사 감독의 첫 데뷔작. 비둘기의 귀소본능을 이용해, 같은 비둘기를 몇번이나 팔고 있는 가난한 소년과 부르조아 소녀의 교우를 통해 현대사회의 밑바탕에 숨겨져 있는 계급적인 단절에 절망한다는 충격적인 내용이다. 특히, 소년이 비둘기를 사살한다는 강렬한 라스트 씬과 영화작가의 탄식이 스크린 곳곳에서 신음처럼 들려오는 멋진 작품.
