For his first film in fourteen years animation director Isao Takahata embarked on a visually sumptuous adaptation of "The Tale of the Princess Kaguya". A dream project for the director that would hopefully establish the recently formed Ghibli Studio 7, created to meet the demands of a new type of modern animation process. But almost immediately the epic production is faced with difficulties and falls dramatically behind schedule. In this compelling and insightful documentary we follow Isao Takahata and his dedicated team of artists as they frantically strive against adversity to make their vision a reality and bring Studio Ghibli into a new Era.

This is the true story of Anne Frank, a Jewish girl living in Amsterdam during WW2. Anne's father realizes on time the danger the Jews face and hides his family (his wife Edith and his two daughters Margo (16) and Anne (13), along with four more people, in "the house behind". For two years the 8 people live in darkness and whispers, in fear of being discovered and sent to the German crematories. During that time young Anne writes a diary, describing her daily life in the cellar, her complicated relationship with her mother and the story of her first love - Peter, the young boy in the hiding place. Anne writes down her wishes to run out free and breath the air and flowers, her dreams to be free at last. But humanity is often a cruel mistress...

도쿄에서 태어나고 자란 탓에 농촌에 대한 동경을 가지고 있는 오카지마 타에코는 10일간의 여름 휴가를 이용해 형부의 고향인 야마가타로 여름휴가를 떠난다. 회사원 생활을 그만두고 귀농한 청년 토시오가 그녀를 마중 나간다. 그는 타에코에게 농촌의 모든 것을 가르쳐준다. 타에코는 그 곳 사람들과 어울리며 되살아나는 초등학교 5학년 때의 추억에 잠긴다. 돌아가기 하루 전 할머니에게 토시오와의 결혼을 제의 받고 혼란에 빠진 타에코는 토시오에게 그녀의 자의식이 막고 있던 어린 시절의 추억들에 대해 이야기한다. 돌아오는 기차 안에서 타에코는 자신이 진정 함께 있고 싶은 곳, 정말로 원하는 것이 무엇인지에 대해 생각하는데...

괴력 원년, 소건국의 황제가 죽은 후 신 황제가 등극하자 전국에서 황후후보를 모으기 시작한다. 깅가는 황궁이야 말로 매일 매일 세끼를 꼬박 챙겨 먹을 수 있으며 낮잠도 실컷 자고 공부하고 싶은 건 다 할 수 있는 곳이라고 생각하여, 후보의 대열에 들어선다. 워낙 총명하고 씩씩하고 대범한 성격덕에 황후후보대상으로 개설된 강의에서도 우수한 성적으로 눈에 띄이게 된 깅가는 강의를 모두 수료한 후 정실부인(정비)의 자리까지 얻게 된다. 그러나 시간도 잠시, 얼마 지나지 않아 반란군의 폭동이 일어나자 깅가는 황제에 대한 사랑으로 후궁들로 구성된 후궁군을 조직하여 반란군에 맞서게 된다. 하지만 깅가의 생각과는 달리 사태는 다른방향으로 전개되고 마는데...
