단짝 친구 레슬리와 에밀리는 달콤한 휴가를 즐기기 위해 로드 트립을 떠난다. 캘리포니아로 향하는 한적한 국도 '데빌스 패스'에서, 에밀리와 레슬리는 한 커다란 견인 트럭과 운전 중 사소한 시비가 붙게 된다. 너무 느리게 주행하는 견인차를 에밀리가 추월했던 것. 그러나 이 작은 일이 발단이 되어, 견인차 운전자는 그때부터 알 수 없는 집착을 보이며 에밀리와 레슬리가 탄 차를 집요하게 쫓아오는데... 그것으로도 모자라 두 사람이 가는 곳마다 모습을 드러내며, 급기야 커다란 차체를 이용해 두 사람의 목숨을 위협하기에 이른다. 이미 단순한 시비 수준을 넘어선 위험이 닥쳤음을 직감한 두 사람. 그러나 이곳은 한적한 미국의 시골 국도이고, 심지어 휴대전화도 터지지 않는 황량한 곳이다.
