데이트를 즐기던 두쌍의 연인이 탄 엘리베이터가 층과 층사이에 멈춰 질식 직전에 구조된다. 고장난 엘리베이터를 고치기 위해 펠릭스(Felix Adelaar: 휴브 스테펠 분)라는 정비공이 고용되지만 엘리베이터는 고장난 것이 아니었다. 한편 같은 건물에 위치한 부동산 소개소에서 아파트를 구한 맹인 노신사가 엘리베이터를 타려고 하는데 그만 문만 열리고 엘리베이터가 도착하지 않아 추락사하고 만다. 마치 악령이 씌인 듯 계속 하여 사고가 발생하는 엘리베이터에 무언가 있다고 생각한 펠릭스는 여기자와 함께 조사를 시작하는데...
