일상이 무료하고 따분한 네 명의 여대생. 그녀들만의 화려한 스프링 브레이크를 즐기기 위해 위험하고도 화려한 플랜을 세우게 된다. 레스토랑을 털어 경비를 마련한 네 명의 겁 없는 소녀들은 가장 화끈한 스프링 브레이크를 보내기 위한 여행을 시작한다. 뜨거운 태양이 내리쬐는 바닷가, 신나는 음악과 춤, 술과 젊음이 멈추지 않는 파티 같은 매일 밤이 계속되던 중 네 명의 소녀들은 강도행각이 발각되어 경찰에 연행된다. 그녀들을 지켜보고 있던 에일리언은 그녀들이 나올 수 있도록 도움을 주는 대신, 위험하고도 달콤한 제안을 하게되는데...

Bill Best, a veteran of the Vietnam War, spends his days and nights in the grip of an empty routine; whiskey, cigarettes and television form a taut border around the perimeter of his life. But beneath the surface of his everyday regime, Bill is anxiously awaiting the arrival of Gwynn, a mail-order bride from Vietnam. As the pair finally meet and settle in, the economic agreement that brought them together grow increasingly overshadowed by the ghosts of their shared past and the hope of a brighter future.

낯선 세계의 기묘한 노인 무리를 찍은 이 작품은, 이들의 가학적이고 원초적인 행동들을 여과 없이 보여준다. 수시로 등장하는 방뇨·자위·반달리즘 등 도덕성의 한계를 넘어선 행위들을 이해하긴 쉽지 않으나, 마치 로우파이 비디오테이프 같은 느낌의 화면을 따라가다 보면 이들이 그들만의 세상에서 그들만의 유희를 즐기고 있음을 알 수 있다. 그 유희를 관찰하는 감독의 시선은, 사진작가 다이안 아버스가 피사체를 바라보던 시선과 닮았다.
