사립탐정인 스티븐에게는 말못할 고민이 있다. 그는 사람의 피를 보면 자신도 모르게 흥분하게 되지만 그 이유는 알지 못한다. 어느 날, 인적이 드문 시골 숲에서 자동차가 나무에 걸리는 사고가 일어난다. 구조대원들은 장비를 이용하여 자동차를 끌어 내리는데, 때마침 그곳에 있던 스티븐의 손에 자동차에서 흘러내린 피가 떨어진다. 흥분하게 된 스티븐은 그곳에 있던 사람들이 두려워진 나머지 자리를 피한다. 얼마 후 스티븐은 지하철 역에서 자살하려던 여자를 구해준다. 하지만 스티븐은 사실 그 여자의 마음을 읽었던 것이다. 그 후 스티븐은 우연히 그 여자와 재회하는데...
