The story of how a group of unremarkable bungalows in Nashville Tennessee became the heart of the country music industry, and led to the city's title as Music City USA. The documentary focuses on the rise of the Grand Ole Opry and the subsequent opening of recording studios in the downtown area while reflecting on what this legendary Nashville street means today in the changing music business.

Music City News was founded in 1963, by country music singer Faron Young. In 1967, the publication began to confer annual awards; in 1978, it began televising them, with the inclusion of artist performances. These awards were not decided by a secretive committee or by an "association," but by fan nominations. Each installment of the Country Legends Live series highlights performances from particular annual awards shows. Country Legends Live, Vol. 4 offers a "best of" the 1984, 1985 and 1986 Music City News Awards Shows. Featured artists in this installment include Hank Williams, Jr., Reba McEntire, Johnny Cash, Randy Travis, Tanya Tucker, Ricky Van Shelton, Kathy Mattea, K.T. This 47-minute, 1991 CBS television special finds John Denver joined by friends Clint Black, Katy Mattea, and Patty Loveless on Montana's Fort Belknap Indian Reservation. Images of Denver on horseback, traversing the wide open plains and herding and roping cattle are interspersed with more intimate looks at Denver, Mattea, Black, Loveless, and other friends gathered for an old-fashioned sing-along in a rustic barn.
