Cinematography
Image and music are intertwined in this third collaboration between director Godfrey Reggio and composer Philip Glass. The film was produced to celebrate the World Wildlife Fund's Biological Diversity Campaign. The film combines images of nature with pulsing rhythms in a Microcosmos (1997) meets Koyaanisqatsi (1983) spectacle. Written by Martin Lewison

<포와카시>에서의 주요 소재는 ‘인간’이다. <코야니스카시>에서 그저 그림 중 하나, 광경 중 하나로만 등장했던 인간의 존재는 이제 카메라의 중심에 등장한다. 영화는 처음에 제3세계의 농촌 혹은 어촌에서 살고 있는 인간들의 모습을 비춘다. 돌을 옮기고 있는 사람들의 모습에서 시작하는 영화는 자연 속에서 조화롭게 살아가는 인간들의 모습, 직접 몸을 움직여 노동하는 인간들, 그리고 종교의식을 행하고 있는 인간들의 모습을 비춘다. 이 카메라가 도시 문명과 농촌 문명이 아직 공존하는 제3세계의 도시에서 살고 있는 인간들을 보여준 후, 이번에는 마천루와 자본, 그리고 미디어와 광고가 지배하는 메트로폴리스에서 살고 있는 인간들의 모습을 보여준다.
