As every year, the Los Pinos school, a prestigious school of the confessional type, sends its students on retreat to the countryside. Under the watchful eye of teachers and priests, the children are led on the path of their physical and moral development. Through the gaze of several middle and upper class teenagers, the film shows how their upbringing affects the future of society itself.

실화를 바탕으로 한 작품으로 아들과 연인을 두고 멕시코에서 미국으로 건너간 남자의 가슴아픈 사연을 그린 영화다. 이반은 멕시코에서 요리사로 일하면서 어린 아들을 키우고 있는 게이다. 결혼해서 아들을 낳았지만 자신의 성정체성 때문에 결혼생활을 유지할 수 없던 그는 헤라르도라는 남자를 만나 사랑에 빠진다. 이반은 멕시코를 떠나 미국으로 갈 결심을 하고 먼저 미국에 가서 나중에 헤라르도와 아들을 미국에 데리고 오겠다고 약속한다. 그러나 불법체류자로 미국에서 살게 된 이반은 약속을 지킬 수 없는 상황에 놓인다.

현재 멕시코 전역에서는 심각한 수준의 폭력 사태가 벌어지고 있는 중이다. 반면 어느 고급 저택에서는 한껏 멋을 낸 상류층들이 수행원들의 경호 속에 호화로운 결혼 파티를 즐기고 있다. 그러나 불안한 기운은 저택 안에도 조금씩 전해지고, 신부 마리안을 포함한 가족들은 곧 충격적인 사건을 겪는다.

Paul, an American composer, arrives in the desert town of Real de Catorce where his father recently died. Every afternoon Noelí, a young Dominican woman, hangs out on the beach at Las Terrenas. With her boyfriend, Yeremi, they look for ways to make a living at the expense of one of the hundreds of tourists there. However Noelí also has a steady client, Anne, a much older French woman, who, like many other Europeans, has found an idyllic refuge on the island to spend her last years. For Noelí, the relationship is one of convenience, but the feelings become more intense as they plan to leave together for Paris.
