수많은 걸작을 탄생시킨 영화감독 살바도르 말로(안토니오 반데라스). 약해진 몸과 마음으로 활동을 중단한 채 지내고 있다. 어느 날 그는 리마스터링된 본인의 영화 시사회에 참석해달라는 제안을 받는다. 32년 만에 자신의 영화를 재관람한 살바도르는 전과 다른 감상을 얻고 생각에 잠긴다. 그는 주연 배우였던 알베르토(아시에르 에테안디아)를 찾아가 함께 시사회에 가자고 말한다. 과거 사이가 좋지 않던 둘의 만남은 서먹하기 이를 데 없지만, 이내 전보다 가까워져 시사회에 동반 참석하기로 한다. 그러던 중 알베르토는 우연히 살바도르의 글을 읽고 이에 깊게 매료되는데…
