France, 15th century. A strange evil has taken hold of the inhabitants of a village, causing insomnia, tremors, and hallucinations. Little Wolf arrives in the village with his parents. His father, the executioner Simon, has been called in to help Toussaint, the local executioner who has also been affected by the disease.

Franck is an astrophysicist. His job is to perform laser drillings with the Lynx, an exploration rover on Mars. Assisted by his collegues, he spends the night looking for traces of organic life by examining rocks. In the morning, he will meet with his son who has been traveling around the world after staying with his mother.

Idi and Rita live with their grandmother, Manie. Idi tries to keep the memories they have of their mother, by drawing on his school notebook. By the force of their desire, the children keep the link they have to their funny mother, despite the separation.
