Set along the river basin of Shimane Prefeture's Takatsu River, a government-protected river, this drama portrays various people living in an area burdened by decreasing population as they carry on the tradition of "Kagura" Shinto music and dance which is said to be the roots of Kabuki. Directing from his own screenplay is Nishikori Yoshinari of Railways. Saito Manabu (Komoto Masahiro) operates a ranch on a mountain and worries his son Tatsuya (Ishikawa Raizo) has been making a habit of skipping Kagura practice. Then Manabu learns his alma mater elementary school will be closed down.
"National High School Photography Championship Tournament", also known as "Shashin Koshien" is an event held annually in Higashikawa, Hokkaido, Japan's town of photography. Every summer, Shashin Koshien decides which school has the best photography club. Oyama, Sakura, and Mirai from Kansai Academy in Osaka were encouraged by their advisor to join with the aim of letting them experience "a world where people who are challenged could see". Meanwhile, Tsubakiyama Shota, a senior at Sakuragaoka Gakuen in Tokyo is the only member of his school's photography club. Other members resigned thinking that photography won't help in getting them to a university. In spite of principal Saeki objecting to his plans, Shota was still eager to join, forming a team with his childhood friend and a junior volunteer. With over 500 schools all over the country, only 18 schools would be chosen to participate in the event. Competitors fight to capture the beauty of Japan and the human spirit.

매사에 무기력하고 소심한 스즈키는 어느날 오후, 자신이 근무하는 렌트카 회사의 점장과 함께 한적한 길을 달리고 있다. 점장은 평소 스즈키의 성격에 대해 비아냥대며 놀리다 그만 앞 차를 들이받는 사고를 야기시킨다. 사고차의 주인은 야쿠자인 쿠로이와. 점장은 스즈키에게 책임을 전가하고 그 자리를 떠나버리고 잔뜩 주눅든 스즈키만 남게된다. 고압적인 쿠로이와에게 압도되어 결국 야쿠자의 사무실까지 끌려가 엄청난 금액의 배상을 요구받던 스즈키. 순간 펑! 하는 굉음과 함께 사무실은 화염에 휩싸인다. 가스가 터진 것이다. 불탄 사무실에서 피를 흘리며 쓰러진 야쿠자와 가까스로 살아남은 스즈키.어느 곳에나 반드시 한 사람은 있다. 병원과 기숙사 밖에 모르는, 성실하지만 요령부득인 사람. 간호사 사토 시즈코는 그런 사람이다. 오늘도 자신의 업무는 마감했지만 게으름 피우던 후배 간호사들의 간식 부탁을 받고 퇴근도 못한 채 근처 편의점으로 나간다. 그곳에서 시즈코는 우연히 야쿠자 사무실의 가스 폭발을 목격한다. 간호사의 본능으로 뛰어 들어간 사고 현장에서 기적적으로 살아남은 스즈키와 야쿠자의 검은 돈을 발견한다. 1만엔짜리 현금으로 나뒹구는 2억엔의 돈다발. 스즈키와 시즈코에게 순간적으로 싹트는 유혹!“그래, 살아있다는 것은 이런 느낌인지도 몰라!!” 피묻은 돈다발을 챙겨 사고 현장에서 나온 두사람. 경상을 입은 스즈키는 시즈코가 근무하는 병원에서 치료를 받고 경찰서에서 사건 경위를 진술한 뒤 시즈코와 함께 집으로 돌아온다. 두 개의 가방에 돈을 나눠가진 두사람은, 폭발 사고로 몸을 움직이지 못할 만큼 다친 쿠로이와를 두고 안전할 거라 생각했지만, 곧바로 쿠로이와 부하들의 추적이 시작된다. 뜻밖에 병석에서 일어난 쿠로이와가 다시 그들을 찾아오는데... 도주하는 두사람, 뒤쫓는 야쿠자. 쫓고 쫓기는 긴박한 상황 속에 이제 시즈코는 어떻게 할 것인가? 두사람은 생각한다. “살아있다는 것은 어쩜 이런 느낌인지도 몰라...”
